Pre Purchase inspection
I am planning to buy a 2011 X5 from Houston, area, can someone please recommend any Pre purchase inspection company that is reliable to send to a dealer for a inspection before I make my offer?
Thanks in advance |
If you are looking for a through inspection, you'll need to have the car taken to the inspector's shop. I had a 2001 E53 X5 inspected [long distance from me] in Houston by one shop, and good service at another. My son in law purchased and is happy with the service and results:
Campbell's, north. They did a good, thorough inspection job. 832-388-0954 Bavarian Machine, west of downtown, another reputable service shop. Bimmer workshop, Jean Dikdan, 281-233-0111. Did some service work, a possible consideration. |
Auction, dealer, or private sale purchase?
|
Looking back at my emails with the son in law, reminded me that Jean Dikdan at Bimmer Workshop, who did several minor service/repair items on the E53, mentioned that he does a lot of work for local BMW CCA members. I was impressed with his knowledge, and he talked me out of having the auto tranny drained/filter replaced in the 2001 E53, with 80k miles on it. That he talked me out of it indicates he knew his stuff .... Pierce330, from the original post, looks like its at a dealer.

I am very, very, very distrustful of auctions. lots of people get good deals, but one bad deal can cost dearly. Glad you are asking about a PPI. Here is another thought for finding recommendations: Go to "Member List", click on that Go to "search this forum, select "Advanced Search". click Enter "Houston" for location...bottom of the page select "sort by" last visit. Search This will give you a list of current participants in Houston. PM 10 of them for shop/PPI recommendations. Or pick the 10 top people also with over 50 posts...etc  Instead of hoping someone passes your thread and responds, you can take it to them (in a polite way...) |
Hit this link of Indies, scroll down the first post, and check out the TX/Houston area Indies...
Aaybe a tech at one of those places will be willing to see that auction car, for a fee. Agree with ard: like a mail order spouse, but potentially worse, ;) GL, mD http://www.xoutpost.com/bmw-sav-foru...ationwide.html |
Good tips, Ard. Over in the E53 forum, a recent? thread described the travails of a guy en route to Mexico who had big troubles in Houston, and was referred to a shop who treated him very well - unfortunately, I don't recall the poster or details - but then, "search" is your friend! :)

I agree with Ard, there are many dealers here who you can pay and they will go to the auction for you...just do your homework on price...If you have the opportunity, compare prices here and in the U.S. Also, many dealerships in Ontario will likely not honour warranty...
