wrong drain plug
2 Attachment(s)
So I have a 2009 X5 30i. I was trying to change the oil but I removed the wrong drain plug. Only about a quart of fluid came out. Attached is a pic, I circled the drain plug in black. Can someone tell me what this is? and how I can refill it? thank you.

Oops. And to think, I have been planning on changing my transmission fluid...

I was thinking it was transmission fluid but I just want to be sure. So I'm thinking I need to remove the bottom plate to get access to the fill plug. Am I right? Thank you for your help.

Look more like the transfer case fluid, that would explain why so little fluid came out.
I wouldn't be driving the X until you replace the fluid. If you don't know how to replace the fluid, better to have it towed to a shop. |
Do you know where I can find instructions on how to change the trasmission fluid? Thank you.

After further research. I think this is the front differential. I read transmission oil is red and I know there is a front and rear differential. I need to remove the aluminum plate to access the fIll plug. Can someone tell me what differential oil my cars uses? Thanks.
