Condensation in light
 

Hi all,

Was about to wash the X5 when I looked at the left tail light and realised that there is some condensation, I had a quick read through the forums about it and they all talk about bad seals, I'm unsure how to go about fixing it as most of them go to the $tealer which isn't an option out of warranty ($$$) wanted to know the best way to get rid of the condensation, looks ughhhhuuuuly.

You can do several things:

1. replace the gasket
2. blow hot air(hair dryer) into the tail light with the lamps removed
3. drill 1/8" holes in the bottom of the tail light to prevent condensation
4. keep the lights on (heat) until they dry out
5. check to make sure that there is no gap between the tail light and body

Hope something works out for you.

My 2 cents would be, that once you get rid of the water using @buckeyewalt's suggestion, do not replace the gasket - go the old school way of using butyl.

I'm saying this, because I had to fix both tail lights on my 09 E70, and these gaskets dry out with time - I had one replaced in 2011, under warranty, and 3 years later, I got a tail light full of water.

Cheers for that guys, the gasket had gone. Common problem according to the guy that does servicing for my car's. He told me a gasket would be £5 and doing it would be £20 in labour (mates rates) asked him to use butyl instead and pleased with the result. hopefully it lasts :)
