Torque Request

the collar nut holding the wheel hub onto the axle.
2009 X5 4.8i

I read 320 ft-lbs but that seems excessive.

BMW Workshop Manuals > X Series E70 X5 3.0Si (N52K) OFFRD > 4 Tightening Torques > 31 Front Axle > 21 Wheel Bearings And Stub Axle > 1 AZD Wheel Bearings And Steering Knuckle

420Nm

=309 ft lbs

Isnt that a 36mm nut? Doesnt seem excessive.

If your torque wrench doesnt go that high, weigh yourself, then slide a pipe over a breaker bar. Do the math....x inches from the nut: stand.

;)

Or like I used to do on old VW bugs: A one pound lump hammer and a cold chisel on the enge of the castellated nut: one swing, all your 16 year old might is exactly 256 ft lbs.
