Just bought a 2007 X5 3.0L and had the same issue.

I searched my ass off on how to remove it and like you, came up with
nothing.:dunno:

Dealer ended up replacing the controller for free. Being a helicopter mechanic, I would have loved to replace it myself...

Thanks for the reply. I can't believe no one on this forum has not had the same issue and been able to answer how to replace that module.

OP, Did you try removing the iDrive controller and reseating it?

That's the question! How do you remove the controller? Do you just pull up on the knob and find a screw or something to remove the controller? I don't want to force something if it's not the correct way to remove the controller.

Just pull it straight up. I and others have done it before. You might want to pry the edges with a wood/plastic stick

There 4 securing pins that hold the upper trim in place. Simply use trim removal tools to pull up on the trim, and youre be able to get to the idrive controller underneath. Pm me. Ive got some docs i can send you if you send me your email.
