Someone tried to break into my car

Oh man so annoying. I've only had my car for like 2 weeks and some a**hole tries to break into it. Looks like they tried to pick the lock with a screw driver and also tried to pry it out with a screw driver too. I can't even get my key in it.

Any ideas what the dealer might charge for this?

Insurance does not cover it?

asma123 02-21-2015 01:55 PM

I don't think it would cover it. I believe this would fall under vandalism which I was not covered for anyways plus here in Canada you normally have to pay a deductible which I believe would be $300 so it makes it not worth it anyways

Suggestion, don't guess or speculate. Ask the insurance company.

I don't know if it's still possible, but on older X5's thieves would break the driver door lock with a screwdriver and turn/hold the lock with the screwdriver which would open all the windows and make it easy to break in.

Probably not info anyone with an 'older X5' would want posted on the forums for public consumption!

OP - it could be expensive if they can't give you a locking barrel to match your key, which might mean replacing all locks and new keys.....which would blow your $300 deductible out of the water.

Cheap option is just to get a blanking cover for your door handle and make sure your remote key battery is kept fresh!

Sorry to hear about that... here's what happened to me earlier in 2014. Not easy to see, but they ended up denting the door as well, so yeah-- insurance took care of it. 2 weeks in the bodyshop as cylinder needed to come from germany. also get ready to provide documentation to prove ownership. good luck!
