Radiator Fan Cost?!?!?!?
2007 4.8 N62 E70
I broke a piece of plastic on the fan blade assembly and now it is way out of balance. Please someone tell me there is a cheaper alternative to replacing the entire assembly for $700. Apparently they don't sell the blade assembly separate from the entire housing and electric motor unit. I found an aftermarket I may have to go with because no way in tell am I paying $700 for a broke piece of plastic. http://www.amazon.com/Cooling-Radiat...productDetails |
The control unit of the fan is directly connected to the engine control unit. I would not connect any aftermarket electronic part to my ECU. If I were you i would just brake the same piece from the blade on the opposite side to ballance it and call it a day.

Have you tried a salvage yard?

Luckily it's winter here in Buffalo so the fan doesn't run often and I will try both suggestions. Salvage yards and in the meantime that's a great idea on breaking off the opposite piece.

- Don't break off the opposite blade and run it - if another piece comes off and goes thru the radiator you'll be up zhits creek.
I just purchased a new fan assembly for my 06 550i and have the old blade. If the blades are interchangeable and as a former Buffalonian, how about $50 + shipping? The BMW part # I used is - 17427534911 Attachment 65802 |

Did you shop around? Looks as 'low' as $575 online for BMW parts
17428618240? Agree about salvage yards...they charge 50-60% of MSRP for their stuff. Only idiots would use them given that you can generally buy at 20-30% off msrp |
