BMW now offers remote start but I want longer range
 

BMW now offers a remote start option:

This uses the car's keyfob to remote start the car. I'd like to be able to start the car from further away. I previously had the understanding that the only way you could remote start most cars these days was to hide a key in the car somehow which I was not willing to do.

I'd like to take this installation and use an aftermarket starter that has better range. Has anyone done this or had any luck with an aftermarket remote starter?

This system works the same with hiding a fob in the vehicle.
Most new vehicles with smart key will function in this way unless it is a factory option to work with an app a la discovery or xc90 etc.
