20 - 30 Crossovers have been built

Factory in Spartanburg just finished 20 - 30 of these guys. They are headed up to the arctic for cold weather testing. From an eye witness, it looks a little wider than expected. Sounds like it's gonna be built for major performance. Engine planned is still slated for ~480HP. This thing's gonna rock.

You will see more when it enters FEP phase soon. Early 2008 is when it hits the dealers.

Its also little longer than X5. BMW wants to position X6 as a sports coupe and SAV rolled into one, therefore the name Sports Activity Coupe. X5 is positioned more as family hauler/soccer mom vehicle.

My source works for BMW and said the assembly line being used was behind windows which were mostly covered. I sent him the latest photoshop pic (red crossover looking thing) and he said it looks very similar. I don't think they were in final assembly either.

He was jazzed about it, though. Moreso than he was for any recent introductions.

Hope they didn't use the same oil-separator set up as in the E53 or its going to be a short jaunt in the tundra.

Can't wait to see the final product, looks great so far
I wonder what the pricing will look like?

480hp...? What engine? I thought 4.4 bi-turbo is around ~410hp...

so, looking at thesepics, what does this X6 offer that an M5 doesn't? W/O dimensions, it's hard to know, but it looks like an M5 might have more haul and passenger space?

the X6 is a crossover, so it offeres 4WD and extra ground clearance.
