X6 Colours and Trim
Apologies for not posting this information earlier, but I just realised that the forum has yet to discuss this. I've had the official X5 brochure for more than a week now, and there are a couple of things that occur to me that you may not already know.
You've already seen all the colours on the visualizer and they remain the same in the brochure. Interior trims are as follows though; 4AD Brushed Aluminium (as in the X5) 4AZ Dark Bamboo Wood (as in the X5) 4BN Dark Ash Wood (new to the X6, reminds me of the Dark Poplar I had in my E53) 4B6 Black Flywheel Aluminium (new to the X6, reminds me of that turned aluminium pattern on the 3-series, but its dark like the metal has been oiled. If you look at the X5 35d intro video you'll see this on the dashboard) Upholstery Colours I will just list the unique X6 options; GHSW Black, Alcantara/Leather combination (like in the M3, but I don't think it's the same as we had in the 4.6is and 4.8is) GHCH Chateau, Alcantara/Leather combination LUCX Oyster, Nevada Leather (this is lighter than Beige and will suit those who are looking for the closest option to grey) LUCH Chateau, Nevada Leather Chateau is a new colour, and on the sample pages looks to be of a similar darkness to Black. It is richer and darker than Saddle Brown, with more red tones, pretty close to a milk chocolate colour. It looks to be an excellent choice for anyone who prefers a dark hard wearing colour but would like an option away from Black. I am seriously considering Chateau Nevada leather inside either Space Grey, Deep Sea Blue or Vermilion Red, although I fear that it would not work in VR. There are a few other details inside the brochure, such as interior dimensions if anyone wants to know. |
I want to see how the mineral silver looks in person.
|
Since I am sitting here by my PC I may as well post the dimensions.
Key points of note; Exterior Dimensions; 1) Front track of X5 and X6 is the same, however the bodywork width at the front of the X6 is 5cm wider. 2) The X6 is 7.6cm lower than the X5, although this decreases to 6.7cm if the X6 is fitted with the optional roof rails 3) Rear track of the X6 is 5.6cm wider than the X5 4) The X6 is 2.3cm longer than the X5 and all of this comes within the rear overhang. Interior Dimensions; 5) Front - width is same as X5, height from drivers seat to roof is 2.5cm less in X6 and this is equivalent to an X5 with a sunroof fitted. 6) Rear - width is 1.1cm narrower than X5, height is 4.5cm less than an X5 7) Boot space you should already know to be 50 litres less than an X5, but still 110 litres more than an E53 X5. |

Excellent, thanks Simon!

I have just been to see all the new X6 colours, and despite narrowing my decision down to Space Grey/Black Leather, I am captivated by Vermilion Red.
I compared it side by side with my favourite colours, the best of which was the Le Mans Blue I had on my 4.8is, and by comparison Vermilion Red is a similar strength to Le Mans Blue, but with more flecks of lamp-black, together with the metallic flakes. It has a depth of colour that exceeds even Le Mans Blue, and the red is a deep wine red that looks very expensive. I also laid it side-by-side with Indianapolis Red (the M-colour avail on M5/M6) which I really despise, and Vermilion has none of the brownness of Indi Red and looks much more confident. Definitely a Coupe colour. The launch videos showing the X50i in motion look pretty representative of how Vermilion looks in the metal. It is a clever colour since those parts of the body shaded from the light look almost black, whereas the parts in the light brighten up and shine red. It's clearly designed to accentuate the curves of the X6. I also had a look at the Chateau Leather, and thought it looked ghastly. Not for me thanks, so I will stick with Black. The other colours look in the metal as you would imagine; - Tasman is a dull, greeny grey. Nice enough if you like that kind of thing, better IMO than Steel Grey, not as dark and dull as that, and the green is subtle. - Mineral Silver, is a creamy beige silver. - Monaco Blue looks close to the old Orient Blue I had on a previous car, so that means 'very' dark blue, and more of an off-black. - Deep Sea Blue, looked nice enough in pictures but it is much darker than Le Mans Blue and a less sophisticated mix of hues, so it looked a little ordinary to me. So Vermilion or Space Grey for me, but I'm leaning towards Vermilion... |
Thanks, Steved. Vermilion appears to be best color. Intersting to hear that its deeper than Le Mans blue. Le Mans blue looks deep metallic in bright sun and darker at night. Now, if only they can have Xdrive 50i available sooner.
|
Le Mans Blue is always my benchmark, it is such an excellent colour but I reckon Vermilion Red will be quite popular when people start seeing it on a complete car.
The first press drives should most likely be a few weeks after Detroit, so I hope to get along to one of these and see a few colours in person. |

Your above comments on Vermillion Red have now cemented my decision on this colour. I am glad that you have seen the colour in the metal & have reported back positively. What colour interior did you see on the VR car? Thinking of either beige or oyster to complement it. |
Hi Simon, I saw VR on a colour sample, but was able to lay it against a black leather seat (which is what I would be going for) and then compare it against all the other X6 colours, plus the best BMW colours of recent years.
I am pretty sure VR will become a popular colour. It's basically 'blood red' with a sprinking of black and silver flakes. |
Steve,
What color was the X6 they showed at Frankfurt? I thought it was a really dark metallic gray and hoped it would be a production color. Thanks :) |

Thanks anyway :) |
I have been going through my usual debate about keeping/changing my choice of colour, and have twice decided to change from VR and twice changed my mind once I've gone and looked at the colour sample (aaaarrrgghhhhh!!).
VR really is a stunning colour in the metal, but I've never been comfortable with metallic red - they've either been washed out/pinkish/brownish. I spoke to a paint technician for one of my previous bespoke cars and he explained how difficult it was to make a good metallic red (I can't remember why it was so difficult). It seems that one of the paint manufacturers (PPG, ICI,?) have cracked it and I've now seen strong confident metallic reds on the new Aston DBS, Alfa 8C and of course Ferrari's F1 race car. But because there are no other past examples of good metallic reds, I keep getting cold feet. Vermilion is a 'completely' new BMW colour, so I can't find any examples on any previous cars. Until I next have a crisis of confidence I have re-confirmed Vermilion. My order does not go firm for another few weeks, so I've got time but nothing else in the X6 paint offerings looks as interesting. Tasman is the 'next' most interesting colour. It looks like a mid-way balance between green and grey, but is not dark. It's a mid-shade colour, so reflects light quite well but still provides that stealthy dark look. I am sure quite a few people will choose this colour and be quite happy with it. In some respects it's like a darker version of Stratus Grey, but not quite as multi-colour as that. |
VR appears to be the best color. Go for it.
|
Come on Steve, be confident with VR.
I'll hold your hand when it comes to the crunch then at least we can be the first guinea pigs on british roads to have the X6 in this new colour  I wonder what colour BMW will show the X6 in Detroit in 10 days??? |
This is the closest colour I can find to Vermilion, and it happens to be Rosso Monza..

I am still flipping between different colours on the X6. I took another view at Vermilion Red (at another dealer) and after much scrutiny (and taking the colour sample outside into daylight), I would describe Vermilion as almost exactly the red equivalent of Le Mans Blue.
I placed it against a LMB X5 and they reflected/absorbed similar amounts of light and were equally as vibrant. The question that keeps nagging in my mind is whether I would feel comfortable living with such a strong and characterful (red) colour on the X6. To confuse me further, I saw a nicely prepped 635d in Deep Sea Blue, which looked thoroughly decent, and after taking the colour sample outside I discovered that it was nigh on identical to my Mugello Blue RS4 Avant. So if its good enough on the RS4, then I know I would also like it on the X6. What I also discovered was that Deep Sea Blue is more interesting than I initially thought. Whereas Le Mans Blue is basically a rich blue basecoat with a dense layer of silver metallic flakes, Deep Sea Blue is a slightly darker blue base coat but this time with emerald green metallic flakes. So it looks blue/green from some angles, and looked excellent on the 6-series in the showroom. To save everyone the trouble of finding some example pictures I will post a few examples of Deep Sea Blue below; http://i153.photobucket.com/albums/s...h_IMG_1999.jpg http://i153.photobucket.com/albums/s...h_IMG_1993.jpg http://i153.photobucket.com/albums/s...IMG_0616_8.jpg http://i153.photobucket.com/albums/s...h_bild_009.jpg http://i153.photobucket.com/albums/s...h_bild_008.jpg http://i153.photobucket.com/albums/s...h_bild_003.jpg http://i153.photobucket.com/albums/s...h_102_2929.jpg http://i153.photobucket.com/albums/s...h_102_2923.jpg http://i153.photobucket.com/albums/s...th_2hxpq2r.jpg |
Good to know that VR is red equivalent of LMB. I have seen DSB but still like the depth and flakes of LMB. Being in Europe, you have more color choices with individual colors also available later.

What are the best interior leather options for the VR and for the really dark/ off-black blue (( i dunno its name )) and for the Tasman Grey
thank you :D |

VR goes well with Oyster, but I personally think would be a little too rich for Beige and Saddle Brown. I have chosen Black, which looks like a good fit when laid against the colour sample. Tasman, needs something lively as an interior colour. Black would definitely not suit. Saddle Brown would work, as would Beige or Chateau. Tasman looks like a mineral/rock colour, so needs something lively to compliment. Hopefully we will see a few combinations at Detroit to help us decide. |
Steve Help....!!!
Been asked to come in and spec mine this afternoon, and can't decide on the colour......:dunno: |
Hi Glenn Mc
I too have been asked to spec my X6 order. Can you not wait until Detroit Motor Show next week? i'm sure there will be a few colour combos to see. I am currently leaning towards VR with Oyster/Bamboo To be honest, I don't even know what engine i'm going for as my first choice X50i will not be with us until Q4. |
Quote:
Just spec'd it, i have til end of the week to change my mind on colour if i want.....still not sure....... Engine choice simple for me 3.5d  |

top marks if you went for VR, need some balls to go for a new colour without actually seeing one in the metal  |
He went for VR. Good man. I'm keeping my order on VR until I see a few more pictures of physical cars at Detroit.
I believe we have a few weeks yet, before the spec becomes unchangeable. BMW UK are just trying to gather together their firm orders to enable the factory to plan their production slots. Mine is still VR/Black Nevada/Dark Ash Wood, but if I do change it then I would go for Deep Sea Blue (which is the same external colour as my RS4 Avant). I've initiated a long and painful debate on Pistonheads to try and help me decide firmly on the engine choice. Thus far I've gone for the 35d, but I plan on consolidating both my ML63 and RS4 into the X6, and it seems sacrilege to dispose of two of the best V8 engines ever made and replace with a diesel... |
That is a bold move Steve, you would have to LOVE the diesel soooo much to stop you daydreaming of another V8.
I know that BMW's diesel range are best in class, but I just don't do diesel yet it pains me to think that my wife is happy to get rid of her ML63AMG for a 35d X6. |

Maybe I should record the sounds of my V8s and play them back on the X6 35d's hi-fi... |

i'm toying with the idea of getting another set of 21"schnitzers that I have on my 6 series for the X6. what do you guys think?
|
Those ACS ones look nice. My preference on the X6 is for elegant wheels rather than those Style 215 ones (although I really like them).
I suspect the Style 239 wheels would look good on the X6, or otherwise a 5-spoke wheel (as we already have with the 20" Style 259 available as a factory option on the X6) or the ACS wheels on your 650i. |
Quote:
Cheers Steve, i fancy the 3rd ones..... Thing is, i don't want to shell out £3k+ for another set of wheels, i'd rather upgrade the standard ones.... Are you staying with the 20" s ??? |

I am not feeling the round tailpipes look of the diesels & 35i.
Do you think it would be possible to replicate the X50i tailpipes look on the lesser models without making it look like a messy aftermarket job? Steve, I am seriously considering holding off until the X50i hits the UK as much as it will hurt me financially & passionately when the X6 hits the roads. It will also allow me to have a good look & test drive before I commit. I really don't think I will be happy with a diesel, no matter how good they are. |
Quote:
I am also still debating the merits of petrol/diesel. You can see the topic I started over on pistonheads.. http://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/t...2&t=480871&i=0 I want to go for the petrol model but the X50i is not available and I'm not sure the 35i will be a good choice in such a big car. I will go ahead with the X6 and in that case it would be easier to trade-in a 35d for the 50i, so I may still stay with my current spec. |
check out Official Production Pics thread of sneak peek of Detroit X6 provided by canamx5.

will we get tobacco interior for the x6 ??

anyone have any info or pigs of the 21" wheels offered on X6 options list?

thanks Steve, I must have overlooked that post.
nice  it all depends on how much BMW will charge for this wheel £1500 max for me to upgrade to them. |
