The X6's Secret Hiding Place
 

Hey guys made an end of the wk recon pass by the BMW Plant today.I've got to travel all next wk and won't be in town to ck out what's going on.Boy oh Boy!!! The X6's were out today. The area around an entrance gate that I park at sometimes was crawling w/ what looked like finished 35i's.There was at least 35-40 X6's in groups of 5 or 6 (like the group I shot).They were driving from the BMW Plant down a two lane road that connects the BMW Factory to the local airport.At the airport they were parking the X6's in a vacant (as you can see in the pic's) abandoned parking lot across the street from the Air Freight Terminal at our local airport.Sorry for the nature shot's through the tree's. I thought about getting out of the car and taking a few shots on the other side of the tree's.But...that staging area or whatever it is,was packed w/ BMW Plant Security personnel.I don't mind being Agent PalBay but not Inmate PalBay!!!!!!! I'm really stumped as to what's going on here.As you can see there are lot's of other BMW auto's in this staging area.My first thought was some sort of X6 preview,ride and drive for VIP's.That does not seem to add up.They could be hiding them there until the guest arrive at the Airport.Just not sure.What I really think is that these cars are headed overseas, via airfreight.They all appeared to be left hand drive,35i's.I'm going to swing by this lot Sat and see if the X6's are still there.Some of these pic's are about the best shots of on the road finished production X6's I've been able to snag. About half of these X6's had running boards,which I've not seen much prior to today.One last mention about the 35i exhaust note.At the stop sign at the plant entrance,once these guys saw that I was taking pictures,they all nailed the gas.If you like a sporty loud exhaust note,you will not be disappointed w/ the X6.With the exhaust note,BMW is playing the coupe end of this SAC coupe SUV balancing act.If you look closely at a couple of the pics at the plant entrance,you can see a guy talking on his radio.I'm sure he's telling his buddies,some nutcase is hanging out his window taking pictures.All the X6 drivers were pretty much giving me the evil eye.The Black X6 on the airport property,with the parking deck in the background,is an interesting shot.Just look at the stance of that car.It just screams " Bad Ass" and "Get Out Of My Way". what's up with the lights in the last pic? So some of them have their hazards on?

They turn on the lights when they see palbay taking pics.:)

no seriously, it looks like the silver one just has hazards on, the black is braking with hazards on, and the grey is just braking.....or are they testing different combinations?

andre8,No need for any compliments,I'm having a blast following the development of the X6 in real time! The X6 is a big vehicle.However,I will say it's 2nd Gen X5 big.I view the new X5 as a full size SUV but,IMO,it just does not seem visually as big as say a Yukon,Escalade,XC90,etc...A credit to BMW's "sleight of hand" design.The same applies to the X6 but even in a bigger way.The X6 does tower over sedans in traffic.It just does not register in your brain in the same way as looking at a Yukon sitting next to a sedan. The X6 just does not assault your sense of size and proportion in the same way a traditional SUV would. Not to be a shill for BMW's Design Team,but I think they really nailed the X6.You know the X6 is as big as an X5, but your brain and eye's are telling you your looking at maybe a 6 Series. IMO,the X6 triggers all the sedan responses,not the SUV reactions.And I think that is what BMW was trying to do with this design.I hope all this psychobabble makes sense!!! Thanks.PalBay

I saw both X6 and X5 parked close and X6 looked little bigger in appearance.

The one thing I've not seen,given all these sittings,is the X5 and X6 side by side.I've seen pics,but not in real life.Looking forward to that situation.Thanks.PalBay

Hey PalBay... It sure is a shame that you are now the Rock Star on the X6 forum but you're not able to enjoy the benefits of Premier Membership... Why don't you check it out? Besides, it's only THEN that you can have the cool X beside your name! :)
