X6 Gas Mileage
Here is a quote from Agent 001 at AutoSpies.com regarding the X6" But the star of the show today was the new twin-turbo 8.
OMG, WHAT an engine!!! It's the best 8 I've ever driven. IMAGINE what it will be like in the next 7 and 5! And that sound!!! Forget gas mileage...THAT's the X6 I want!!! And speaking of gas mileage, the 50 wasn't as bad as the long term X5 4.8i that I'm currently driving. My X5 is getting about 14.9 city and 16.5 highway where the new 50 was tracking about 16 city and 20-21 highway. Amazing for its power and thrust. And if you're wondering, the 35 got around 19 city and 22-23 hwy in our tests." I'm not sure I buy the TTV8 mileage they are quoting. If that's anywhere close to accurate, that is a huge breakthrough for BMW!!! I hope they are correct! Thanks! PalBay |

So low 20's is now great gas mileage....I guess that Tahoe Hybrid did pretty well then with its 21mpg

Pal, great enthusiasm, and I don't doubt you, but have you seen the official figures released?
Also, you know we are all waiting for your review!!!! |

could be wrong but basic logic says if they had improved mpg so much, they would have released these figures long ago. The fact the vehicles go on sale in 10 days and we still don't see these numbers is kind of weird to me.

UK official figures for the 35i are 25.9 MPG (Imperial) combined (BMW UK Website) - which is 21.6 US MPG. Urban figures are 19 MPG (15.8 US), highway - 32.8 (27.3 US)..... i.e. not much different to the X5 3.0si (27.7, 20.6, 34.4) - about 1.5 mpg less for the X6
However UK tests are different to US so the numbers will be different stateside. But upshot is slightly worse than X5 3.0si. No numbers on UK website for 50 as it doesn't launch until later. putting that in perspective, no-one in the UK is getting near the official figures, most people are finding they get about 5-7 MPG less than the published combined figures. |
Since the X6 35 is pushing 20 mpg according to EPA estimates on BMWUSA, I'd imagine it is damn near impossible that the V8 will produce better numbers.

With the X6's seriousazz avoirdupois, highway mileage in the "20s",
eg 23-25, under real world, day in day out conditions, is hard to believe... maybe if one is down wind all day. No beef from me; I like the X6, but jes' not in the cards. |
I think that those mpg's are achievable ....reduce the vol. of gas in the tank to 2 or 3 gallons, throw out all four seats the spare tire and anything else heavy, shove a skinny jockey behind the wheel, and set him off down a hill.
The reality is that it will probably be in the very low teens around town if you are lucky and mid to high teens on the highway without going crazy with the right foot. |

This review quotes an average 22.6 mpg (imperial) for the 5.0i, which is 18.8 mp(US)g........i.e. rubbish! In Town you will be lucky to get 14-15 MPG US. All the other figures in the review are the official UK figures so I suspect that is a real figure too.
