X6 on the lot
4 Attachment(s)
I took my X5 in for servicing at BMW of Sterling in northern Virginia last night and there was a new X6 on the lot. I snapped a few pics with my phone (hence the shotty quality) but I figured I'd share them with the community anyhow.
It looks like a track truck to me... Not bad looking, just too car-like for my tastes. I buy big cars for the interior room, and with that sloping rear end, I think my dog would be less than comfy. |
yep, it's ugly.
Although I have to say, if you had used a non-phone camera, and it was daylight, then it would look... oh, who am I kidding....it would still look ugly. Your black X5 looks 10 times better. I keep hearing some of us X5 folks justifying the X6 by saying "pics don't do it justice" or "it's really starting to grow on me". Puh-leeeze. If a car has to "grow on you", that is NOT a ringing endorsement. I view the X6 as a waste of a perfectly good Twin Turbo engine. Throw that Twin Turbo V8 into an X5 body, and THEN we'll have a winner. Until that happens I am steering WAY clear of this....of this...monstrosity. BMW is going to appeal to a very narrow niche with the X6. I just haven't quite figured out what that niche is. |
I passed by Open Road today to top off my oil and they had a Tasman one in the showroom. The color is nice in person. My salesguy is off today. Tomorrow I will kick him for not calling me as soon as it came in and then I'll take it for a spin.

i actually like it :)
it grew on me months ago lool i used to hate the e70 when it first came out and now i'm driving it :) |

FWIW I still intensely dislike (I'm a lover not a hater  )the E70. It will always look like a jacked up X3 to me......and I think that the X3 is possibly one of the fugliest looking SU(A)V's out there.
....just my opinion.............and it hasn't changed from day 1 |
The dealer had two on the lot today... one with sport and 20" wheels.......
I liked it better in person... This one was the red color which def looked better than the graphite grey. The rear window is a little difficult to see out of. The 3.0TT seems a little quicker and more responsive than the 4.8 in the x5. It also felt a little lighter on its feet. I also drove the 135 coupe ...... wow what a blast.... |
looks like a dodge charger. horrible!!
|
It might be just me but the X6 I just don't get it. I mean its a SUV, has no room in the back and the back seat only sits 2 people.
Here in Australia we get the twin turbo diesel sports X5, has bigger brakes than the V8 X5 and 600nm of torque with double the fuel economy of the V8 as well. I would buy the X5 over the X6 as it has more to offer, if I want a sports car I buy a sports car. I don't see myself moving from a X5 to a X6. |

Same here bud!!! Sorry haven't been around much, too much work/travel.
I love the X6 concept, but it needs some sheetmetal that differentiates it from the X5. Something more aggressive, like the BMW CS. Right now it looks like an X5 front with a Dodge charger rear on 20" rims. |
I personally think that the X6 looks nice. Crossover vehicles have been doing well (as in the case of Toyota and Mazda). BMW did the right thing in preparing for the future and released the X6. I bet in a few years we will see a lot more CUV than SUV on the road.
|
I love the X6 and haven't even seen it in person yet. If I had the extra $30k I'm assuming the V8 would cost over my 335, I'd probably have gone for that instead. But don't get me wrong, my 335 is a blast!
|
Stopped in at the local dealer to see it in person and I do like it a lot. My wife who didn't care to go in and see it, now wants it. She didn't want to leave the showroom! :wow:
At 66K MSRP for the 3.0 in the color red was a little rich for me since the dealer said that my 03 X5 with 54K miles (NAV, Sprt, Prem pkgs) would be worth around 16.5K trade in. :yikes: I also took a look at the new X5 and felt that it would be too big for my family of 4. I will upgrade to the X6 but probably not for a year or two. I still love my X5 and it still given me a big grin when I am out on the highway. :D |
I really think it's about as useless as an FX45/35, At least the X5 is useful, if I'm going to guzzle all that gas, I demand to fit all the things my garden can handle, including Trumpet vines without having to rent a truck!

Hit my local dealership to check out the X6. Didn't take it for a ride, though the salesman was quite encouraging in that respect.
Quite frankly, it frightened me a little bit to see the size and number of the blindspots in that vehicle. Perhaps I could have made it a little better with a few minutes working on the seating position and adjusting the mirrors more to my liking, but I do not think that it would have improved to the point of satisfaction. Call me crazy, but I would rather not risk such an expensive car for a test drive on a lark, most especially one that is so hard to see out of. It made me wish for a periscope. To each his own though, I agree. D |

There is an X6 driving around my town. I think it is from Fields, but I'm not certain.

Went to the dealership yesterday and believe it is an absolute stunner- IMHO.
I am now contemplating the X6 or the F10 as a replacement for my 3 series. Was leaning towards the M3 but can't swallow the "no spare tyre" crap from BMW. |
I just don't understand the resistance to 'no spare tire'. Carry a can of puncture seal and a small compressor. If that doesn't work, you have free roadside assistance, and unless you're in the middle of the Nevada desert in area 51, they should be able to reach you in a reasonable amount of time (assuming you have a cell signal). Maybe the roads here in South Carolina are better than some other areas (even metro Detroit wasn't that bad!) but I have had only ONE flat in the last 8 years (in my BMW)! Knock on wood.

Maybe those who drive on bad roads have more problems... |

I may be wrong but I don't recall seeing a spare in the X6....... I also doubt the new 5 will have a spare either. It seems as each model is redesigned they loose the spare. Even the X5 lost its spare when the 3rd row seats are added. |
There is a small diameter spare under the rear storage area. The X6 has run flats.....???? I don't understand the need for a spare.I will take out the spare and use the area for additional storage. Thanks! PalBay

1. You have a slow puncture- your RFT will take 50-120 miles depending on the size of the vehicle. You managed to get to a safe place where you can have the tire fixed and you are told we can't fixed becuase you have loaded the sidewall. Then you decide to buy a new tyre and they don't have it in stock because your tyre specification do not qualify as fast-moving-inventory item, hence the lack of stock. How convenient is that? O- you call BMW assist to come tow your car because of a flat: think about it. 2. You blow a tyre, and now you can't go anywhere. What do you do? I have had two flats with my 3 series, and I had to change the tyres and continued with my trip. I carry a spare with me. I had to get a spare for the wife's X5 as well. From experience and logic, the lack of spare tyre doesn't make sense one bit. |

There's always 'some' situations where a spare would be better, but to not consider years of driving bliss in an M3 because you worry about 'what if this happens' sounds silly.
You answered your own questions above Chonko! If you have a slow puncture and the dealer says no replacement available today, you put in the sealant and pump up the tire! Now you can drive for thousands of miles, waiting for the new tire. Blow a tire? A run-flat? You would probably have more damage than just a tire! I haven't heard of a 'blown' tire since the Ford Explorer roll over days. That was due to overloaded vehicles with low tire pressure on defective tires. Run-flats don't blow-out. Correct me if I'm wrong. If it did, the answer is to tow the vehicle, get a loaner car from the dealer. My Viper is a HUGE pain. It has run flats, and no spare. That's not the problem. There is no place to put the wheel/tire if you did have a spare! It will not fit in the trunk or passengers seat. Availability of a replacement? 345/30 19 Michelin ZP? Not at my Wal-Mart! I will agree, a 'blown' tire far from home with no replacement available would be a major pain. Still not enough reason not to buy an M3!!! |
I agree, I don't think I'd decide to buy (or not buy) a car based on the sole reason of no spare tire.
That being said, I think the people who say the can of fix a flat and Road Side Assistance is all you need, have never used either. On day 3 of ownership of an M3 Roadster may years ago, I got a flat. Pulled out the fix a flat and really did nothing other than make a huge mess of the tire and wheel. My call to Road Side Assistance ended up in a pretty headed debate about the existance of a spare in Z3s. Non M Z3s had spares, M's did not. This point was completely lost on Road Side Assistance. Regardless, 4 hours later a tow truck arrived to take my car to the dealer for a new tire. |
I agree with everyone. Bimmer should have stayed with the pre X5 style and just change some minor cosmetics to keep it fresh lookin. Bimmer in my opinion has really changed there style and I'm not a big fan of there new designs. What ever happened to the classy BMW look? MB is looking better, and Audi's new A5 is beautiful! If Bimmer can have some look like the above, and with there performance dynamics, you would then have a perfect vehicle. My 2 cents....
|
I think you will see a softening of the flame surfacing in the near future. Back to more classic BMW lines. Wait till you see the uncovered E89, wow!
|
Really? Do you have any pics? Please let me know, let us all know. Thanks.
|
No pics, not allowed. Only a quick peek while at Regensburg last month! Did you see the camo pics on this site in the 'other BMW' section?
|
No, where are the camo pics...
