Glenn - How are you liking the X6?

Forgive me if you've already posted and I didn't catch it.

Really like it, the handling is VERY good, where i live, there are many roundabouts, so a good handling car is importnat if you are pressing on ;)

Steering is sharper, as is throttle response, brakes are better too.

Really like it

Congrats. Enjoy her.

I love my E70 but I'm starting to second guess my decision not to be the X5 World X6 Guinea Pig. 18 months to go :)

I really like the tow bar :)

hi glenn is your x6 a 3.5i or the diesel?

cosmos 07-13-2008 01:54 PM

I am sorry, but is that little thing (the hook) supposed to tow the GT3?

I am using my X5 to tow my GT3 Cup car on a open aluminum trailer and I have to tell you, my hook is very different and much more "solid" looking. It slided in and locks into place.

I know BMW does not have a brake controller, but I only tow like 4000 lbs so I am ok with not having one; but where is the plug for the trailer lights?

I had the exact same type of tow bar on my last X5 (Old shape) and it was great for towing the GT3 i had then, and was good for 100clicks too...
It has the same locking system too, which is great.

The electric socket is next to where the tow bar fits into, the socket faces downwards.

I shan't be towing my Cup Car myself, as my race team will do that, but i will tow my RS at some point, and don't expect any issues.

I think the last X5 had a Towing braking system/sensor for anti snaking, would have thought the X6 has too.

Does the X6 have the same trailer braking limit as the X5? If so, your 4000 lbs is 2.5 times the safe limit (1600 lbs unbraked for the X5). Good luck.

Looks good Glenn, glad you like it.

That is for NA. EU had towing much higher than the 1600lbs. The X5 is the same vehicle. It tows like a dream. Like Mac said, the BMW's have a great sensor built in. I remember getting some trailer sway at like 60mph (100k) and the trucks (X5) DSC came on and it was very easy to get the trailer under control.

For the X5, EU had same standard towing capacity as NA. There was (maybe still is) an extra capacity option for the EU that increased the towing capacity slightly. I agree the X5 tows very well. My comment was on the towing limit with an unbraked trailer. Over 1600 lbs trailer weight, the X5 required trailer brakes. That can be either a brake controller (for electric brakes) or surge brakes, applied automatically. The DSC helps with stability, using the trailer stability control feature, but that doesn't impact capacity, just stability when sway happens.

Not sure on the X6 capacity, as I haven't seen any info. Assume it is similar to the X5 though.

BMW prohibits any use of a brake controller and does not endorse one.
