Anyone put a hitch on their X6?

I just ordered a 35i... scheduled for completion on the 18th

So I have a few hobbies that sometimes require trips to Home Depot to get wood and stuff. I'd really like to be able to pull a trailer to carry a few things. I see that BMW has a 2" hitch accessory available... but my dealer wants $1100 for it - $500 for the hitch, $600 for install. So I was wondering if anyone has put their own in. I'm wondering if I could save myself the $600.

Sam.

Haven't seen a DIY article, but having done an E53 hitch (OEM), I wouldn't be worried, particularly if you have some mechanical skills. My dealer printed out the BMW instructions for me, unasked, when I bought the hitch from them. That install price is very close to the E53 and E70 figures.

On a related note, E70 owners have noted that the vehicle requires reprogramming after the hitch is installed. Not a big deal, but you should see what your dealer will charge you for that because if it is significant enough, it might be better to let them do it all. The installation instructions will reference any reprogramming required, as well as the special tools (likely TORX bits in a variety of sizes based on previous experience)

Good luck.

hmmm... i might just try to convince her to do it for free... my boyfriend ordered a 135 from her too which he picks up this weekend. so for $100K in sales, i would think she could do this for me.

i don't think that's the same as the US hitch... the ones listed on bmwusa.com is a 2" class III.

:iagree: US hitch is different where the receiver is not hidden.
