toohotdoc 11-14-2008 04:04 PM

I thought all new BMWs came with I-drive.

dmlgc 11-14-2008 07:01 PM

I have an iDrive in my 3 1/2 month old X6

LeMansX5 11-14-2008 07:24 PM

I think the OP means the new 2nd gen iDrive with shortcut buttons as discussed in this thread

IloveNYC 11-15-2008 05:07 PM

Great!! 2nd gen iDrive is a must have on this model

IloveNYC 12-15-2008 05:16 PM

Hi Guys.

Are there any news about this topic? I read that people in Germany are discussing the new i-Drive up an down. Some people say the X6 will not receive it within 2009, others say that it will be updated within 03/2009. Who will be right? There are lots of people who hesitate with their order right now because the state is not clear.

Please let me know if there are any serious news..

Thanks.

DxbMania 12-16-2008 01:28 AM

seems like you took out the slot where you could put a mobile .

IMO i think the i-drive is now in a harder position to access , behind the gear would the best

cosmos 12-16-2008 02:38 AM

3/09. I will be vindicated in March. I think this is also when the 2010 X6 comes out. BMW has done March early builds for next model year before as was the case with the 2008 e60. That started production in 3/07.

IloveNYC 12-17-2008 08:51 AM

That would be great. Are there any insiders who can confirm that?

Mazainen 12-18-2008 01:39 PM

A local dealer here in Finland told me that the new IDrive will be available starting from April 2009 production. I hope that is true.

IloveNYC 12-31-2008 06:11 AM

Our local dealer told me the same (but with a maybe)... new i-Drive starting March in the X6. Can anyone else confirm this statement? Who else asked a dealer or official?

scott27 01-05-2009 12:25 PM

Yes, both X5 & X6 getting revised iDrive in the Spring ...

IloveNYC 01-05-2009 03:36 PM

Do you have any confirmation? It sounds that you are very sure about spring !? ;-)

FYI; Scott works for BMW AG. That's why he is sure.

HIRISC 01-05-2009 04:24 PM

On 12/31/08 I placed an order for an '09 4.8i. I have been waiting for the new 'M' or whatever they are going to call the 4.4TT (as well as waiting for the new CIC/iDrive). Prior to my order I had asked about the arrival of the new/updated X5 and was told that it 'wouldn't arrive until later in the year'.

I was doing some more digging today, ran across this post and re-connected with my local dealer. Here's a paste when I pushed for what 'later in the year' actually meant regarding the 4.4TT:

I just spoke with the rep from BMW and he said it may be released earlier

But, they are not definite yet......

....BMW is not ready to make an official statement yet.

Could they be announcing at one of these?Don't know if any of this 'speculation' is related to the X6, but if they release an upgraded E70, they may also update the '6' :dunno:

FWIW, I just cancelled my order - I'm waiting to see what Feb 13th brings :) Worst case is I re-order the '09 4.8i and drive a rental for a few weeks :D

2nd gen I-Drive in X6 is also heavily discussed in Germany. A lot of people say that their dealers told them "not before October 2009" others say "March 2009". I hope for BMW that "March 2009" will match....

I hope that's true, I heard otherwise, but.....I know you've been right many times

IloveNYC 01-10-2009 05:36 AM

There is no official info about new iDrive from BMW Germany (News in 2009) within the press release from yesterday.

Is it possible that BMW still presents an "OLD idrive" X5 and X6 on the NAIAS? All series are fixed with the new system - not X5 and X6. Spring and summer sales would crash for those models.

Mazainen 01-16-2009 03:38 PM

My local Finnish dealer received a confirmation from BMW Nordic product manager that the new I-Drive won't be in X6 this spring. X6 is apparently getting the new I-drive by the end of the year. That must mean the 2010 production. Darn... :(

IloveNYC 01-16-2009 04:55 PM

I don´t believe so. Scott27 who works for the BMW AG (as posted in this thread) said a few days ago that idrive comes in March. As I researched in several forums and threads, Scott27 seems to be a very good informed guy who is not posting things that are not true. Several other sources (BMW dealers in Germany) confirmed the new idrive for spring also in private.

A local dealer told me that BMW does everything to satisfy their customers and an old idrive in an 80000 Euro Car is impossible for any month longer. His sources told him that the press release is going to be published very soon, within the next 14 days(?)!

Let us trust in Scott27 and some other unconfirmed voices! BMW will not fool us with an old idrive for a higher list price - I hope so.

IloveNYC 01-17-2009 04:26 PM

What happens here? New iDrive also in fall? Still can´t believe that.

Scott27 makes himselfs scarce - send us a sign, please! ;-) The time is ripe.

Per my info:
The F10 5-series and X3 are coming in spring 2010 as 2011 models.
New BMW models releases for 2009 are:
PAS(F07) - Geneva show
7-series F01 (already out),
7-series hybrid, 7-series xDrive, 760Li - Fall 2009
X5 M, X6 M - Shanghai or Frankfurt,
X6 hybrid - Fall 2009
Z4 - Detroit show.

X5 facelift may happen earlier than scheduled. Like F10, F13 6-series is still a while before it happens, not even in FEP phase.

IloveNYC 01-22-2009 04:25 PM

Any new information about the new idrive?

apw2607 01-29-2009 04:56 PM

My x5 35d goes into production on March 10th (approx). I've got a call into BMW USA about this whole i-Drive thing. They assurred me that they would find out a definite answer and get back to me. They did agree that it was poor that customers still dont know what they are going to get in a car, given it goes into production in about 5 weeks.

Scott27 has been totally wrong! Now everyone should believe that he is no "insider" at all. ;-))

X5 and X6 - no iDrive in the Spring... German pricelist available today and DVD Navigation inside!

HIRISC 02-02-2009 05:49 PM

Hope we learn something about the ///M's before Frankfurt - that's in September. :(

Ya, the guys at BMW NA pretty much confirmed that to me today. That is unfortunate. Cancelled my order. Screw that BMW. They are hopeless.

You did it right! I would do it also.. but it is too late. I must drive my X6 with an old iDrive. That sucks. My last BMW for many years - for sure. I have always been a very good customer and ordered lots of BMW´s for my business and myself.

BMW sells those expensive X6 cars with old tech. They give the new iDrive to the old 5 but leave out the brand new X6. Those guys who are responsible are so stupid.. I hope they´ll loose thousands of customers for the X5 and X6 and fire those guys who are responsible!

Doesn't surprise me one bit. For a company to keep the TT I6 away from the X5 and justify putting it on the 1,3 & 5 series tells alot about their thinking.

There is something fundamentally wrong with the decision makers on when, where and how to introduce and harmonise technology.

ravenheart 02-06-2009 11:37 AM

Ugh - what a shame - if it really turns out that they are keeping the old Idrive for another year in the X6 I am not buying one - thats for sure.

So far I have skillfully avoided Idrive all together on all my BMW's and I was very happy when I saw the new system thinking it would be ok to replace our old X with a new one for next winter.

This leaves few choices that I could convince my wife would be decent - either domestic for price or maybe with a bit of 'luck' a Q7. Woe is me.

apw2607 02-08-2009 02:43 AM

Don't think for a minute Audi standstill either. They have new Infotainment system on the horizon as well, and what they currently offer is rubbish. Whatever you buy today, the infotainment system will be out of date in no time at all ... but what's certainly frustrating though is BMW's reluctance to bring the next generation i-Drive to the X cars in a timely manner now.

ravenheart 02-10-2009 02:35 PM

I am not really concerned with it being out of date - I just want it to be user friendly. I know the Idrive is a personal thing - you either like it or you dont. I dont - it just seems akward to use to me, but more importantly, my wife hates everything about it and dont want to look at it. Since this car would be for her daily drive, if she doesnt like it we are not getting it.

Tried the system in the Q7 - it seemed more friendly than the Idrive and it has a proper OFF button which my wife likes since she can just ignore it all together.

Audi MMI is quite better than the old iDrive!

Boxsterfeet 02-10-2009 05:20 PM

I had an Audi for a few days before I placed an order for my current E60 and I thought the MMI was too simple, didn't allow you as much control as idrive (even the original) does and the controller was too small. I don't understand journalists who say idrive is bad and confusing - I can only think it's because perhaps they don't use computers as much as I do ? When I drive my wife's ML I can immediately see the benefits of the 'drive. However, I'm now waiting to place my order for my E71 (or E72) until the new gen idrive is announced.
