Question on the paddleshifts...
 

I don't have an X6, but I was wondering...

Does the gear shift have to be to the left in Sport/Manual mode before you can use the paddleshifts to shift up or down? What happens when the gearshift is in the normal driving position and you try to use the paddleshifts?? Will it actually shift gears or just ignore the command? :dunno:

I have retrofitted paddleshifts into both my E53 X5 and E39 540i - however in both vehicles, you have to move the gear to the left before it will shift up or down.

Isn't this just a function of the programming ?

When exactly did the paddleshift become available on the X6? I see that the 09 models have this option, but was it available since day one? The parts diagrams only show it from 11/08 prod onwards. Does anyone have an 08 model with paddleshifts?

They are standard on a X6 right from the beginning.

With x6 (e71), w/ D engaged paddle shift will put trans in Manual, then automatically shift back to D after/if the car comes to a stop.
If u move the gear shift to the left/sport mode, stays in Steptronic/SMG mode, shifting automatically
if u move shifter to the left, & paddleshift will put trans into manual fulltime.
(I seldom use full manual, as the SMG mode works so well, & fantastic, i can concentrate on finissing my steering & throttle.)

Wow, this works so much better than the older E53 and E39 that I put paddleshifts in. Those cars have to be in the sport mode for the paddles to work. Love the fact that now you hit one button and the transmission shifts into sport/manual and shifts down...offering you max acceleration at the touch of a button. Can't wait to retrofit this into my E70. I already have the parts on order! :thumbup: Now, anyone take apart their E71 to see how it's wired in?? :D

Don't think u can just install paddle hardware.
U'll need to get bmw gealer to redo software program .
x6 in pre delivery mode apparently have drivers' door open only & speed limit to 10 mph.
x6 is very computer program/ electronic oriented.
Wait for the x5 M. It'll have everything & more!

Well it's a little more than just the hardware. I will have to make a custom harness as well. There is no software coding required. The paddle shift is just another way of shifting gears...something you can already do of course using the gear shift. The X5 and X6 are literally the same in terms of electronics. I have most of the wiring diagrams.

Yes the X5 M has the paddle shifts and more as already seen in the spy shots posted in the X5 forum! Unfortunately it will be a while before it's out and even longer before I can afford one! :(
