that was only a matter of time

shenard 03-16-2009 10:02 PM

Teaser pics look nice but hard to tell without seeing the full uncovered version. Knowing Acura it will probably be front wheel drive and underpowered! Hopefully twin-turbo and awd

I am sure it has same engine as MDX.

Probably which would be a shame!

GX5NY 03-16-2009 11:17 PM

I wouldn't downgrade from a beemer to an ack

archwerks 03-17-2009 03:11 AM

roofline seems even more raked back & severe than x6.
when's launch date? anyone know?

bmwman3241 03-17-2009 04:18 AM

I think my dad still likes his MDX better than the X. He has had 4 MDX's in the past 5 years.

archwerks 03-17-2009 04:37 AM

why 4 in 5 years?

He still has the 2005 and 2008.
I guess it shows how much he likes them. I am the one that convinced him not to get an X5 back in 04 because I hated the old style, and I thought he would get a Range Rover but he ended up going for an MDX.

2004->2005 He went to buy my sister a TSX and ended up trading his as well.
2007->2008 He went in for service and came out with an 08.

Is this your way of saying that the MDX is an old man's car?

I didn't say that. :dunno:
Don't know where you got that from.

archwerks 03-17-2009 01:31 PM

I would have bought MDX too if x6 didn't have a better vector drive. German cars have better brakes too.

dmlgc 03-17-2009 04:08 PM

Well I might go with a "C" word but it would be Copycat.

FSETH 03-17-2009 04:25 PM

What do you think the odds are that the rear end will look better than the X6?

I bet the X6 will look better from the front, though.

Haven't heard that that term since high school auto-shop...good way to put it.

My guess is it will be performance oriented (thinking NSX), light, and fun. Any idea what it will be called?

Car will have Honda/Acura SH-AWD...torque vectoring.SH-AWD (Torque Vectoring) was invented by Honda. It is the foundation for BMW's DPC in the X6. This Acura will have at least 300hp and very possibly Honda's first ever V8.This is a real deal performance crossover...the first real competition in looks/style and road performance for the X6.The car will be positioned above the Acura MDX and be the top line Acura/Honda product in their lineup.BMW is paying close attention to this vehicle. Will be a very niche product for Acura....20,000 or so cars a year. One to keep an eye on.Thanks! PalBay

Very correct. Thanks. Acura is ahead of BMW in DPC. BMW still does not have DPC on X5 while MDX has it since 2007 model and RL had it since late 2004. As someone at BMW had mentioned a while back, they are closely watching Acura and Lexus.

LeMansX5 03-17-2009 11:42 PM

I hate the new Acura grill design. But it will be cheaper than X6 even when fully loaded.
Priddy's guesswork.

Looks like Honda (Acura) is taking a page from Hyundai - The Genesis is a copy of many cars subtly blended.

This copy cat has an ugly duckling nose. The Pilot by the way has been referred to as monkey but ugly. Advice to Honda, get a new team on grill design quickly.

The Acura noses of late have been really bad - maybe they think it's ok and the design will grow on people. I don't think so.

It also has Mazda like front fenders - not bad but I'm not sure yet.

Regardless, if Honda (Acura) wants the MDX to be a copy cat alternative to the X6 they should consider giving it a performance boost option.

Interesting to see so much follow the leader here.

The MDX should call the plastic surgeon and get an appointment for a nose job.

Wagner 03-18-2009 08:01 AM

While they are following, maybe BMW in turn can copy Honda's nav system :)

Good point. They trust Siemens VDO too much.

Maybe Audi Q6 or Mercedes will be a better competition for X6

archwerks 03-25-2009 03:45 AM

If this is audi Q6, they need a new design team to redo the nose too!

vinuneuro 03-25-2009 07:50 AM

I'll be in the minority when I say this, but Acura nav blows! Too many clusterfu**ing buttons and menu's to accomplish the same things.

Mr. Minority,;) For how long have you used Acura's nav?
I have used it back to back with BMWs old and new and its far better and accurate. You will be first car at intersecton traffic light and BMW nav will tell you "left turn in 100 feet" Acura nav will say "left turn in 0 feet". They also had split screens long before BMW which shows coming turns and highway splits with route directions.

Maybe the X5 navigation needs improving, but I have spent a fair bit of time with the Acura MDX/Honda Accord nav system and it has a poorly lit screen with very poor (step down) font.

I wouldn't order either vehicles with nav at this point. If a great nav screen is of interest, try the new RX350. It has an oled (organic light emitting diode) screen and is the best I have seen anywhere. It is clearly visible, even in bright sunlight.

Does the new iDrive use oled or backlit lcd? Anyone??

The first gen MDX had crappy screen. The new ones have better and nav is based on dual layer DVDs.

I should've been more clear. Their GUI/UI blows.

Regarding Acura: there's no reason to buy those cars anymore. While BMW has improved tremendously, Acura and to a certain extent Lexus have really slipped in that last few years. Infinity is still good.

Acura's body design have gone down hill with toothless smiley grill designs. But they have improved on engine, handling and elctronics. BTW, BMW was kind of influenced by Acura SH-AWD for DPC. BMW does consider Lexus as competition seriously.

Another smiley face car from Acura.

chilliwilli 04-08-2009 08:15 AM

I assume it can be considered as a cost effective alternative, price and reliability-wise to the X6 but i doubt it's an alternative, performance-wise. Any release of stats yet?

E61Silver 04-08-2009 08:16 AM

I saw photos/renderings of the 5 series hatch back and it looks a lot better than the X6.

Naz24 05-05-2009 12:03 AM

everythign BMW comes out with is criticized to ridiculous amounts and then copied.

..the idrive in 2002, look at Mercedes, audi and all other luxury car brands, they all have a similar system
