Dull feel from Active Steering?

Hey everyone - testdrove an X6 today and it was the strangest experience. The steering felt completely numb. It didn't really matter what was done with the steering wheel - the car just didn't respond with any kind of urgency. Got back in our X5 (E53 4.4 with sport) and it was like stepping from a shoppingcart into a gokart.

The X6 had the 'active steering' and I figured it has to be because of that - but wanted to hear if anyone has driven an X6 without active steering and can compare it to an X5, in particular an E53 wih sport, though any input on the subject ofcourse would be apreciated.

the e53 has the worst steering, better with servotronic. the x6 without active steering is just perfect.

+1. I love my X6 without active steering and contemplated on whether or not I wanted to get it and I am glad I did not get it. All a matter of personal preference.

It takes some time to get used with active steering(1-2 weeks) but after that you can't live without it.
I also have a X5(E70) without active steering and every time I drive it ,I find the steering heavy and less accurate than the active steering from my X6.

In my opinion the Active steering and Adaptive drive are the best options for X5,X6

Now this I find interesting. I drove an E70 for a few weeks - it was a loaner from the dealership so basicly had no options on it - but the steering was immediate and felt precise and predictable, though the non-sport suspension ofcourse made it more wallowy during turns.

The X6 cornered flat and seemed like it could take the turns at higher speeds - but the 'lightness' of the steering wheel made it feel disconnected - like I was driving by remote control. Thats the part that has me spooked - I really hope its just the active steering since I definatly want the heavy feel :)

Dump the active sateering its a pain in the ass.

Get the logic7 system instead. I can gurantee you will appreciate the decision. I know i have both. hate active steering, love the stereo.:)

This is exactly why I didn't order active steering.

I think it's one of those personal preference things, just like some people like sport suspension and some don't.

is the active steering on a 6er just different to all the other ones? because i absolutely LOVE it on my 645. and before you suggest i may not be sensitive to good steering feel with cars, i can assure you that is false: it's a big reason I've never liked any mercedes (although the new generation of x63 AMGs have finally improved quite a bit i must say)

Testdrove an X6 50i without the Active Steering and it was just right :) Ordered one - should be good :)
