Not bad considering that the X6 was up against performance version of the other 3. The X6 ///M will torch them.....Phil

Great video...thanks for posting

MINIz guy 06-09-2009 01:11 PM

Cool video, the X6 did fare well! I wonder why they didn't choose the X5 4.8i instead, as that would be similar.

The video seems similar to Top Gear with some corny jokes and their track driver, but Top Gear is still better.

:iagree: Only 0:00.1 slower than the Cayenne turbo, and considerably lower price than all the rest... I call that the winner in my books. And if they did best time of 3 laps each it may have even beat that as he gained confidence in the rear diff :D

I do find it funny that the most powerfull and highest priced one of them all was hands down the slowest.

Ummmm...the 4.8i is not at all similar. It doesn't compare, performance-wise to the group and would be out of place. If an X5 was to be included, the closest competitor in the X5 line-up, since the X5 ///M is not yet available, would be the E53 4.8iS.

ECSTuning_Joe 06-09-2009 05:16 PM

Wicked video! The X6 M will take the cake!

not only that, it's also has 100 less hp than the others. I noticed that the driver used the paddles on the ML, but not on the X6. I'm wondering if the X6 would have been faster if he did? Didn't see any paddles on the Cayenne Turbo.

Weasel 06-09-2009 06:51 PM

I think the X6 just in sport mode would have been enough, but it would take the driver letting that x-drive and read diff combo work a little harder for him. ;)

I guess you're right. I was thinking about it design-wise as the "sports activity coupe" design did give it a lighter weight and allowed it to go faster.

That is correct. The X6 in just the sport setting is the fastest possible combination. I have tried in using the paddle shifters and there is a little bit more delay in shifting gears (not much but noticeable).

i think the Q7 has the best front end and 738lbs of torque under the hood from a diesel - make it my #1 choice..... enough power to pull a house from the foundation........................................ .

The most expensive, most aggressive looking, the most impressive power #s, yet the slowest track time and worst handling of the group... At least they're getting themselves in the game now though.

Uh...many people here care. The handling is one of the X5's major highlights. The first thing I noticed when I test drove one was how car-like it felt in the twisties.

What are you going to do more often, pull a plane onto a runway or turn?

Weasel 06-24-2009 09:29 PM

I'd bet a 20hp snapper riding lawnmower in low gear could pull the 747... or pop a wheelie trying!

How about one single guy pulling a 767.

It should only take about 2 or 3 guys to pull a 747, not a whole VW.

Why oh why does everyone think the X6 is an SUV?? It really doesn't fit anyplace so they and their owners keep inserting them everywhere. Just my opinion!
As far as the article why should anyone care if their SUV is a tenth of a second faster going around the track?? How many people buying a SUV will actually race it?? There are so many other things to look at beside speed but everyone is obsessed with speed ( down to one tenth of a second, Ha! ).:D

That my friend is the reason why these premium performance vehicles have their own specific market...There's obviously a demand for it. Some simply don't care, some choose to purchase a non-performance vehicle then soon discover it lacks performance so they dump $$ into it for added performance...whereas, others, like myself simply prefer the ultimate in premium performance, whether it be an SUV or SAV.

You may not give two shits why someone would care about a tenth of a second difference but when one is performance-biased, they care. And yes, there are many other aspects to look at besides performance, however, there are many tests out there that compare these other aspects...this particular comparison just happened to be based on performance.

It is what it is and to each his/her reach... :D ...

Ok, you are probably a professional driver where a one tenth of a second makes a difference..bully for you. But you didn't even answer the main question i posed. Why do you ( i guess ) and others need to put the 6 in an SUV category?? Do you want to put it in there just to show off your performance you like?? Why don't you compare the 6 to a 911 or a performance car if you want. I would understand that more than taking a 5000 pound car and thinking it was a SUV. Everyone has their right to their opinion but I was just asking why does everyone think it's a SUV?:dunno:

Well, firstly, your question seems misdirected because nobody in this thread "put the 6 in an SUV category"...the reviewers and BMW did. I know of several real SUV owners that purchased an X6 as an alternative. Now, do i personally think it's an SUV? Why the hell not? it's damn well close enough in plenty of categories aside from a true off-roader. I tow a variety of trailers and max performance in a premium SUV/SAV is ideal for me (insert the max towing capacity for a 911 here).

lastly, my understanding of the ///M philosophy besides motorsport, is a vehicle that can go from the road to the track and vice-versa. Being that i prefer SUV/SAV's for my lifestyle, either the X5 or X6 ///M would perfectly suffice for my needs and wants. So i guess an SUV/SAV with actual track capability AND towing capacity puts me in the category of their niche target demo.

My question to you is, why do you care if it's called an SUV? And have you driven one yet?

Many people mod their cars/SUV's looking for better handling, acceleration, braking, etc. Everyone deep down wants to be a 1/10 faster than the next person. How is that so hard to understand?

A lot of people had your attitude when the e53 came out or the Lexus RX..those things aren't SUV's...they are built on car platforms! Well, times have changed and now even the Ford Explorer is going to move from a body on frame design. The X6 is just the next evelution of the SUV. It has similar underpinnings of an X5, but with a more car like body. It is still SUV, IMO. Even if it has lost some utility. Not everyone is driving around in Suburbans or Escalades anymore.

If you want to see and X6 in car/crossover version look at the new 5 series GT.

i would consider the X6 a SUV -it is a clone of the Aztec shape and the Aztec is a suv..

also kinda looks like a 1990 honda CRX with 4 doors..:stickpoke

I never said it was going to win a beauty contest. Not from the side or back anyway.

Yeah, well we've only heard the X6/Aztec line a few times...keep repeating it and it may just become true. You're an auto dealer right? I challenge you to test drive an X6, preferably a V8 TT, and circle back with your thoughts. If only an Aztec could take a corner at 80mph

Thanks ekelly,
Good vid of some nice machines. Shame a 4.8 E70 wasn't asked along to the party, would've been an interesting outcome.

Weasel 07-02-2009 08:17 AM

Eh, the 4.8i E70 would have gotten handled in that comparison... the E71 is the one that had the TT V8 and was still the cheapest of the group.

oh, didn't realize the Pepper Turbo comes in stick. I thought all the V8 SUVs came with an automatic with steptronic/tiptronic. That's kinda cool. Thanks.

turbo doesn't, the only v8 with a stick is the GTS; he wasn't using the buttons on the steering wheel to shift b/c they're crap, he was in manual mode, actually moving the gear shift (the turbo will sit on the rev limiter and not upshift)
