Introducing....cmyX6go
Here she is....
http://i102.photobucket.com/albums/m...6/IMG_1541.jpg http://i102.photobucket.com/albums/m...6/IMG_1542.jpg http://i102.photobucket.com/albums/m...6/IMG_1550.jpg I had the time of my life yesterday. What a great experience. I can't recommend PCD enough. If you are ordering a BMW, you MUST do PCD. Firstly, thanks to this site. You come for the information but stay for the friendships is so true. X5flyboy drove from Charleston to Spartanburg to share in my delivery excitement. Thanks Mark. I met Diesel guy and his daughter, they took delivery the same day. I met Kaefer for dinner last night and AzNMpower for lunch today. I received texts and calls from B-Line, Ucrew, Michelle, LeMansX5, Kaefer, noncom, Rastagurl and wait....even Gresch. I love you guys! I missed my calling in life. I should have been a race car driver. I owned the slalom! They split us up into groups of three. My group consisted of me in a 50i X6 and two 3 series. The slalom is a mini road track with cones set up on the straight away that you need to weave through. You can go as fast as you want, provided you don't get sloppy. For the road track, they set up cones as "marks" so you know your line, where to brake and where to accelerate. I started out as the lead car and tore up the course. I did it so fast, I wound up up the ass of the last car. :p: I hit every mark, every time. Took the slalom like a pro and didn't knock down any cones. The instructor took the other guys off the course and made me run it solo. He told me that I was doing great, but he would make me do it better. So as I drove, he called out instructions....full throttle, break hard now...Ray (the instructor) couldn't believe I never had professional instruction. I thought he was blowing smoke up my butt, until my friend Tina overheard Ray bragging to Donnie Isely (professional race car driver and instructor at PCD) how I hit every mark every time. I think M driving school is next. They will remember I was there. And for the record, I DID tell Donnie, in front of a room full of people that I heard he was better than a roller coaster. The X6 is amazing. NO BODY ROLL and what a beast. I behaved myself coming through Virginia but tore it up as soon as I hit WV. Once I was in NJ :zoom: I also got 17.5 mpg on the trip. Now that's impressive. |
Congrats! PCD sounds amazing! I can't wait to do it next year! :)
|
Congrats! I think a change in profession is in order...matches your handle. :D
Nice of X6. You look like a pro driver in X6.....better than Danica...Danica will have to leave once you enter pro racing. |
congratulations... you look great in your new ride!
i didn't do PCD with my 08 X5 but i'm looking to do it with my 10 X6! glad you had a great time.... keep us posted in any new developments. |
Thank you, drod. You are going to be blown away by the X6. I also went from a 2008 e70. The difference is remarkable. The ride quality is amazing...smooth as silk. The new idrive is so much quicker, the rear camera is a huge improvement, and the handling :wow: I can make it go sideways.

congrats! nice X6 you got there!

Will they let someone PCD a 2003 4.6is? I know it already has 90+k miles but they should work with me!
Glad you had a great time, and showed them boys who the boss was on the courses! Something tells me as much as you will want to buy this X6 at the end of lease you will probably switch it up just to PDC again... cmyX6Mgo? |
Looks absolutely beautiful, and sounds like an amazing time. The Performance Center rarely disappoints. Glad to hear you enjoyed the ride home and sorry I wasn't in town to join in the festivities with everyone else.
17.5 mpg? How in the hell? :stickpoke |

Sounds like a blast, have fun with the new X6.
|
Congratulations, L!
You and, your new X6, look fine! Not surprised on your additional undiscovered talents... Glad you made it back in good stead. BR,mD |
ENJOY! :)
|
She looks HOT !!! Well, both of you ;)
Congrats L ! Now please post more high-res pics, including interior... thanks! Any pics from PDC??!! |
Thanks all. It was a blast. I'll take more pictures today and during the week. My aluminum pedals and side window deflectors are being installed tomorrow. I really didn't take PCD pictures, I was having too much fun behind the wheel.
It feels good to sleep. I KO'd last night after that drive. I didn't get too much sleep the past week. |
Did they give you a tour of the plant ?
|
Yes, they just resumed production on Fridays. Pretty amazing stuff.

Thanks all. What a joy to drive. I'm loving this thing.
As for being a PCD instructor..damn. Talk about finding something you love to do and figuring out a way to get paid for it. What a great job. |

black dress + black X6 = hotness :D |
Thanks guys. :)
She's at the dealer now getting aluminum pedals and window deflectors installed. And of course I dressed for the occassion. Black dress with silver grommet accents. I love to accessorize. :D I'm happy to report I did get the Michelins  I'm also pleasantly surprised with the appearance of the 19s. I was afraid they would get lost in the wheel wells and look like girlie wheels. They look pretty good. So good that I'm going to pass up a set of X6///M wheels I was considering for summer. |
Beautiful car and beautiful driver...:D
|
congrats L!
|
Thanks Stevev and Josh...
It's too nice out to be stuck in my office when I should be tearing up some entrance ramps.... |
CONGRATS, L!
She's beautiful! Sounds like the PCD was well worth the wait! |
Thanks Michelle. It was definitely worth the agonizing wait.

LOVE it. Can't wait for the 'BMW Girls Gone Wild' video. |

Thanks Stan, and all the rest for the kind words. You guys are great for my ego.
And thank you, Wabbit :) |
One hot car and driver.
|
Great write up. You showed those 3 dreamers. X6 sounds great!
Enjoy my dear. |
looks awesome! i want an X6 so badly. Ive driven one and i cant agree with you more about it. Prob the best SUV on the market for handling..
but, i will have to go ahead and disagree with you on a wheel change. Bigger wheels will look MUCH better on it. Pull up to one with the 20s or 21s, you'll see |
get the 21s....get em...get em.. get em... quickly!!
or worse case, get the 214s 20s... they look great on the X6! |

Thank you Mikey and Blue.

Summer wheels are pretty pointless especially if you drive mostly in the NY/NJ area. The roads are so awful, I don't know how y'all with 20s manage it up there. I already think Maryland roads are sh*tty but NJ and NYC give a whole new meaning to "pothole" (actually, Northeast states have bad roads in general). When I drove my X3 on the Belt Parkway, I felt as if I was actually driving with square wheels.

Another peeve is the "omg I'm going to crash into the bridge support" corner at the eastern end near I-278 and the Grand Central Parkway. There needs to be much, much stronger speed enforcement on the Jackie Robinson. I don't know what the speed limit is, but I would set it at 60km/h (40mph) and then strictly enforce that. It is narrow with limited visibility and traffic flow is heavy. Clearly NYC doesn't understand "speed enforcement" like VA. |
Quote:

Quote:
|
How are you people going any faster than 10mph on any NY highway with all the traffic to notice any potholes? :D
Congrats on the ride! I'm sure the exhaust sounds great, maybe ringtone material. BTW, I thought NJ was the speed trap capital? |

Thanks Weas. It's a 1936 V8. It's the actual truck my dad learned to drive on. He bought it and had it restored. |
Ahh, the flathead V8... It must have been a fun project! Even edelbrock makes cylinder heads for the flathead now! :D

My take after 1000 miles
What can I say. I love this vehicle.
Likes: The power is insane, more power than I'll ever need. It feels as if my foot never presses the accelerator more than a fraction of an inch, like I'm coasting but I'm doing 80. Shifts are smooth and no more lag off the line. She just rockets. The exhaust note :wow: The new idrive is much faster than the old one and easier to navigate. The rear view camera with top view is pretty cool. It's much clearer than the old camera was. Big improvement. I love that I can save my music on the hard drive. Who needs the 6 CD changer? Handling is awesome. I do feel a difference between the 20s that were on the X6 I drove at the PCD and the 19s I have. I don't feel as glued to the roadway going around my morning ramp to the bridge as I did tearing up the slalom. I'm not sure if it's because of the all seasons vs the performance tires or possibly that I hit the bridge within 5 minutes of leaving my house so the tires aren't warmed up. Obviously the width of the staggered set up plays into it. I'm considering summer wheels...:takecover The exhaust note  Nappa leather seats and dash. Love it. The seats are like butter. Aluminum trim looks great. Have I mentioned the exhaust note? Dislikes: No rear wiper. It would probably be an eyesore but I'm so used to it, I hate when my view is impaired, especially having the smaller rear window. My sideview mirrors. I feel as if the placement is different from the E70. I can't put my finger on it but the view seems off. I also find them very dark at night. I guess I'll get used to them. The C pillar ( is that what you call it?) Although there is a small vent window, that damn pillar is in my view when I look over my right shoulder to change lanes. Yes, I always look over my shoulder when changing lanes. Again, I'm sure I'll get used to it. That little gray flap on the lower rear. It really should be black. All in all, I'm very happy with my purchase, except my jaw hurts from grinning. :D |
I love your Week 1/1,000 Mile Recap! I'm totally living vicariously through you. :jealous:
No rear wiper = :luv: :D Did you not put your famous "bubble mirror" on your side mirrors? Is that why you are looking over your shoulder to change lanes? Ever since I changed my side mirrors to see the lane next to me (not down the side of my car) I haven't needed to look over either shoulder when changing lanes. :dunno: Oh and... GET 21" SUMMER WHEELS! GET 21" SUMMER WHEELS! GET 21" SUMMER WHEELS! GET 21" SUMMER WHEELS! GET 21" SUMMER WHEELS! GET 21" SUMMER WHEELS! GET 21" SUMMER WHEELS! GET 21" SUMMER WHEELS! Thanks, M. I thought you'd get a kick out of the rear wiper comment. :p:
Yes, I did put on my spot mirrors. I bought them up here and brought them with me to SC. The PCD driving instructors told us how to properly adjust the side views in the same manner as that thread here years ago, so I adjusted them accordingly. I can't explain it, the view just seems different. You know how mirrors say objects in mirror are closer than they appear, well the objects are ALOT closer than they appear. I've always panned the the rear view and the side view mirrors so I know what's around me. I think I'm gun shy because of the rear design, I don't have the same field of vision. I'll get used to it. I'm looking at the X6 ///M wheels...We'll see. Mark (X5Flyboy) said he took his X5 with 20s to the same car wash I go to and he never had a problem. I called the owner today and he said 12.4 inches is fine, with room to spare. I swore I wasn't going to screw with wheels. That was the main reason I didn't go for the ///M in the first place. :thud: |
I'm sure you'll get used to the mirrors.
Re: Wheels.... Why have such an amazing vehicle and not wheels to go with it? It's like wearing flats instead of heels! :stickpoke |

L maybe you should trade it for a M?
|
get the M...
and wow, I didn't know the top view was like that!! never seen in action....pretty neat. love the follow-up notes... I have 20s and love them... but you will notice decent size pot holes... in New York there are no small pot holes....only man holes!! my next vehicle will have 19s which I believe is the best combination. i didn't notice...did you get the twin turbo 6 or 8? |
Quote:
Quote:
I got the 50i, twin turbo V8...plus the performance package - an additional 40 hp  Hence the perpetual grin :D I had the 19" non staggered set up on my E70 and liked it. It was a good cross between ride and handling. I've never had 20s, the biggest tire/wheel combo I ever had was a staggered 19" setup on my E53. They were great on curves but the ride suffered on the straight aways. It's a trade off...I'm not sure I want to sacrifice ride for the few times I want the handling to eat up twisties. |
Wow L, this is really amazing... I am reading your review, and I am thinking... "yes, I'd love that too... agree, I'd hate that too".. Your comments regarding obstruction of vision - I am the same ! I even have huge panoramic mirror INSIDE (which btw covers the dimming sensor and my side mirrors dont dim much at night!) and two fish-eye smaller mirrors on the sides. I have virtually no blind spots.
Re 19 vs 20s - I love the looks of 20s, and since my bro got his new 2010 X5 with 214s, I am going on/off every day if I should get them too... But then I have a practical side of me and I dont want to deal with NY/NJ manholes... still undecided. Have fun, glad you like it. |
I bet you didn't know
My picture is next to the word decisive in the dictionary.
Quote:
Devil: Do it. Angel: Don't do it! Devil: Do it! You know you want to. They'll look hot. Angel: Don't do it, it's not practical, You only want them for the looks, that's shallow. Devil: Shut up you wuss Angel. She's a shallow bitch, remember. Someone make them stop. |

Another devil  Peer pressure sucks.

You gotta drive one to decide if you want it or not...
I love their looks, but am concerned about (a) potholes, (b) tire wear (Dunlops suck!) and (c) precision of steering. The (a) is somewhat a problem, (b) is not much of a problem since I can special-order them with the Bridgestones which last much longer, but (c) is a huge problem for me, as I am a human alignment machine.... (that is a separate long story of laughs). So yesterday I had to chance to drive my bro's X5 with 214s, all along on twisty road with some minor road bumps, mini potholes etc. (Bro dont worry I took it easy :)). I can tell you that the steering wasnt the same. It was lighter and less precise, and going over the bumps the car needed constant mini corrections. It just wasnt my cup of tea if you know what I mean. One the major reasons I got a BMW is because I love tight and precise steering and handling and I just dont want to sacrifice any of it. So L, find someone who'd let you drive X6 with summer tires, and let it be another data point to help you with decision. P.S. BMW of Bloomfield NJ quoted me $3850 for 214s with Bridgestone RFTs, TPMS etc. So far they seem to beat everyone else when it comes to prices of accessories and add-ons. |
You'll never guess what I did today
I read the fookin manual :p:
It's amazing, every stupid question I have is answered in that little book. Damn, If I did that 4 years ago, my post count would be cut in half. Carry on . |

Anyway...OMG! The power in this thing is unreal. I have to be careful when I kick it. It can get away from you real easy if you're not careful. I can't imagine the ///M. I'm actually glad I didn't go for the ///M. I have more power than I need as it is. One scary thing...I filled up yesterday morning. I have 52 miles on the trip odometer, and I'm showing 3/4s of a tank :thud: My OBC is now down to 14.7 from te 17.5 I got on the ride home from PCD. And it still shows 250 miles to empty. I guess it didn't catch up to my actual city driving yet. It probably didn't help when I showed that Mustang GT who was boss yesterday. He was not happy :p: He started it....Or I wouldn't have wasted my time with a pesky GT  |
Ouch L... Did you read that it is rated 12/18, while your X5 was 14/19 !?

To be honest with you, I'm considering it. Lots of power going to the rear wheels. If I kick the accelerator going into a curve, I sometimes feel like she's going to break loose on me. The X6 I drove at the PC was glued to the road going through the slalom and the track. I felt in control at all times. It had 20s, but didn't have the extra 40 hp. I'm sure the additional power and the narrower tires are both contributing factors. I have to ride the 19s out for the winter, I'll consider it over the next few months. |
Just think, it can only kick out so much with the trick rear diff and x-drive... :D
After a couple snow drives you should be able to say if and how much better the rear diff makes it for snow. |

Let me add my congratulations... She's a beauty !! I didnt read through all 17 pages of comments so forgive me if this has been asked already..BUT how is the vision out the rear glass given the slope..any blind spots..? Also, I'd be interested in how she does in the snow - assuming we get something more than a dusting... All the best and drive safely.. Edco and Patty |
Thanks, Ed. The view out the rear window isn't bad. Changing lanes to the right takes a little getting used to. The C pillar causes a nice blind spot when I do an over the shoulder glance. I adjusted my mirrors outward and have my spot mirrors but I'm still not 100% comfortable.
I'll let you know on the snow question. |

Well, when he got back to the office today, as he handed me the keys he said "I get it now". So to all you X6 haters....shut up go drive one :D I hope he doesn't like it too much. He may want to trade for a while. Not happening :p: |
