Head-up display question!

I was wondering what the pros and cons of having it were. I'm kinda torn as to adding it to my order or not. I've never had it before so I guess I can live without it, but was wondering if anyone has any regrets for getting it or not getting it. Is it a distraction of driving at all? Thanks everyone.

I test drove an X6 that had it and I hated it. I thought it was distracting, so I did not order it. When I did the performance center delivery, the X6 I drove there had it, and I was fine with it. The display was lower on the windshield and was not constantly in my sights. I'm guessing it had to do with my seat position.

I suggest you go test drive one with it.

I think the HUD is great and, if you do a search, I think that you'll find that most people like it.

The height of the display can be adjusted. If you use polarized lenses, in your sunglasses, you cannot see the display.

The only thing that I wish, and I might look into one day (if I can afford it), would be to have my Valentine One remote display on the HUD too!

I like it - always having the speed up has made a world of difference for me not speeding speeding too badly. Another thing is that I no longer use the Sat Nav voice directions as everything I need to know is always right in front of me.

As far as cons ... I guess the only one for me is that when ever I point out how cool it is to other people in the car they cant see it, making me look a bit silly :)

If my salesguy told me it was adjustable, instead of saying if it bothers you we'll turn it off, I would have ordered it. Oh well.

There aren't any X6's in any of the dealerships here that have the feature, so I can't test drive. My concern is because I have a compulsive disorder for having things out of place, it would distract the heck out of me. It already bothers me when they put the state inspection sticker and county sticker on the inside lower middle part of our windshield. If it is not aligned, has a gap in between the two stickers or not straight with each other, I'll get fixated with that while driving. It drives me freakin NUTS:banghead: until I fix it of course!:2thumbs: Then life is good again.

Sorry. We all have issues, don't we?

Curious... Does it have the infra-red night vision like Cadillac?

Too bad, that would definitely make it worth having.

:iagree:
Its cool that unless you are in driver's seat you cannot see the HUD. You can mess with passengers head. :D

I like it and never buying a car without it.

I love Heads up Display!
It comes in use when driving at higher speeds, or when using navigation. I am in Dubai, and we have speed cameras every mile so it helps me keep my speed at the limit when I reach a camera.

I would recommend it to everyone.

chonko 12-10-2009 03:27 PM

I have it on mine and I love it.
Take a test drive with one, and one without.

blktoptrvl 12-10-2009 05:19 PM

Can't wait till it is avaialbe aftermarket.

mswaz 12-11-2009 02:24 AM

Mine has it and I thought I could really do without it. But after having it I dont think I would order another one without it. I like it because how I adjust the steering wheel and seat i cannot see the top of the speedo so this constantly tells me the speed im traveling. I love it. I compare it to comfort access, if you never had it you'd never miss it but when you do have it its a must have.

I really think HUD is a safety feature for watching speed. In an M thats improtant for me at least.

mtech8 12-11-2009 09:07 PM

Absolutely love the heads-up display.

Get it, you won't be disappointed. I was a bit bummed to find out that Lexus is offering it in their RX.

I think the M models add Tach to the display. Drool.

HUD is my favorite option on the vehicle and I will not purchase any other BMW without it. For everyone that says it is distracting that is BS. If you don't like it or don't want it on then hit the button and turn it off. It does not always have to be on. Also, it is very convenient to not even have to look down at the speedo and with navigation it is very useful because the directions are displayed and you can keep looking straight ahead without ever looking down at the Nav screen.
