Top Gear reviews the X6

Hi everyone :) During the holidays Top Gear reviewed the X6 - they didn't like it much, but that is hardly surprising. Still worth watching though :)

And in case something like this gets you riled up remember that this review is done for a UK market where a car like this is kinda crazy.

Clarkson is a jerk in my opinion, his reviews are entertaining and fun but he doesn't really appreciate certain types of cars, incl. SAV/SUVs.
He compared the X6 M with the M5 and although he liked how it performed ("best handling, best performance SUV in the world"), he wouldn't recommend buying one because "it just doesn't make sense". Yeah, right.

YouTube - Top Gear: Jeremy Clarkson tests the BMW X6 (Season 14, episode 7)

I'm in the UK.... :D
Clarkson is a tool, he's a comedian (thinks he is anyway) I'd take his review of any car with the same pinch of salt as I would that of Harry Enfield.

Wasn't even current spec car he tested.

That and they never changed from the high performance summer tires for the offroad test or snow test...

Why does an SUV need to go around bends at insane speeds? Buy a sports sedan if you want that. That said, I know there are folks who would buy the X5 M or X6 or whatever else BMW sells thesedays.

If I want a massive SUV (which will never happen), I'd get the Range Rover.

SUVs that can go insanely fast around the bends etc. make sense for people like me that want the sports sedan but need the space and utility of the SUV. I don't have the spave or money to have an F250 and an M5, but found something that meets my towing needs that is fun to drive and has plenty of fun power with the 4.6is. I'd happily drive an X6 if I could afford it, but not at this point in my life.

AzNMpower32 01-07-2010 09:24 PM

A simple hatchback anyone? VW Golf, BMW 1er, Opel Astra, Audi A3, Ford Focus to name a few.

Weasel 01-07-2010 11:12 PM

But can a focus or audi hatchback tow a 6000lb trailer? Mixed use car for mixed usage needs. It isn't labled for one purpose, and is a compromise between a sport sedan/hatchback and a full sized suv. But the X6 seems to be a love it or hate it design no matter how you look at it.

Meiac09 01-07-2010 11:58 PM

I don't think he bashed the design too much. He did the typical Clarkson "fail at driving the BMW up the wet grass with big performance tires while a fatter, slower, thirstier, and more expensive Range Rover with off-road tires goes up without a problem" and complained that its expensive.

He needs to update, BMW's aren't for cocks anymore. Thats the Q5's job now.

Clarkson will continue to say the only AWD SUV/SAV/SAC (Not sure what you call them...) that he likes is the Range Rover. The only BMW he really likes is the M5 and now that cocks drive Audi RS4's he likes the M3.
