How do I remove the rear rubber seal lining the trunk opening? There doesn't seem to be visible attachment points, but I don't want to just rip it out.

I'm trying to get in that area to lay some clear vinyl over the bumper so it won't get scratched up later on.

I dont think you need to actually remove the plastic piece to put some clear vinyl. I've seen someone modify one of the e53 X5 "bumper steps" to fit the X6. came out pretty good actually

Depends upon how well protected you want to be, and if you're bothered by a piece of black on the rear bumper. I'm looking at fitting one to my xDrive 40D when it turns up in November.

Well, it is a little late for any other options. I have a 24" x 30 yard roll of clear vinyl now. I'm trying to get it covered like in the following picture. I want to remove the rubber seal to get everything perfect.
