Ordering Question

Hey guys I've lurked around for awhile :D, but just today we test drove an X6M and it pretty much locked my pops into wanting the car. Anyway to make a long story short he's got a partnership coming up and and I was wondering if you can order the car say this coming week (to take advantage of the holiday stuff and so I can say we got it :D) and have it locked in by the time the big bucks really roll in when the partnership goes through. And how paying works when you order, putting money up exc. or because you haven't taken ownership can you get it all built and then pay up :dunno:

Sorry if this got answered I tried my best to search

Holiday Cash requires that you take delivery. Ads are currently showing it as valid until January 3 2011.

When you order it the dealer will want a deposit. Deposit should be refundable if things change, but check with your dealer as laws vary by state.

Ordering in one name, and then purchasing in another, shouldn't be a problem (I ordered a new BMW and we bought it in my wife's name when it came in).

Oh that stinks but still not a deal break I could see his eyes light up driving it I knew if I could get him in it, it would seal the deal :D.

But thanks knowing that about the deposit might greatly impact us being able to put an order in this coming week, I doubt he'd do it if he had to put a wicked down payment up before the cash comes in.

Also maybe you know, but could you schedule the performance center delivery far in advance? His job opens in like mid march and I think my spring break is in April or late March, it would be epic if I got to go do PC for my spring break. Since I'm tied down at school till the end of the semester after and before that.

MD:College Park I'm going to check with my advisor when spring starts up, but I'm hoping if we order it would match up with break... It would suck to have to hear my dad gloat about going solo.

Maybe you can answer this or someone else but when you place an order (our only other bmw was bought from the dealer no custom build, same with the other people in our extended family) but what is the process for getting it all ready is it just a deposit and then you take care of the down payment / financing while its being built or upon delivery date, or is all that sorted out prior to ordering?

You'll probably have to put down a deposit when you order, but you won't have to pay for it (down payment, financing, etc) until you take delivery. You should finalize the price when you order.

Maybe a bit personal but I'm around your area which dealer did you use if you don't mind me asking. We had a good first experience with VOB.

I purchased my current X6 from BMW of Alexandria (formerly Arlington), but I bought it used off their lot. I would rate my experience as "Fine". I was fed a lot of the typical car sales BS, but that's the way this business works.

I think your relationship with your CA makes a bigger difference than the dealer does when making a purchase. You can have good or bad experiences at any dealer.

You'll have to put down a small deposit when you custom order the car. My deposit was $1K on a 2011 X6 35i.

Typically when you order the car, you also request PCD. If you search this forum and others, you'll find people who requested PCD as late as the week before the vehicle build was complete. Basically, the factory needs to catch the vehicle before it is scheduled to be transported to your dealer and have it rerouted to the Performance Center.

If you do PCD, about two weeks prior to PCD you'll have to complete the purchase transaction (downpayment + financing). If you take delivery at the dealership, you complete the purchase transaction when you take delivery there.

Pushing delivery out to 3+ months after ordering is very unusual. But, it may be possible. Check with your SA. To give you a sample timeline: I custom ordered in late October. My X6 was built by the last week of November. I completed my transaction the 1st week of December and did PCD in mid-December.

I talked to SA's at BMW of Fairfax, VOB, Russell, and Tischer. VOB got to the right price and we liked the SA. I bought there. But, I used Truecar.com to get competitive offers that VOB had to respond to.

Thanks man lots of helpful information... Yeah the date would mainly be pushed so it wouldn't interfere with spring break :( since I strongly doubt I could get away during school time.

We liked our SA so I think I'll looking to your route with truecar.com

Dang I just quick built one and if this info is right they are offering some amazing prices, just above invoice I wonder why it isn't showing the dealer name I see passport and sterling just not the other 3 listed. I should give you a hug for that site :D
