Getting ready for winter.....
3 Attachment(s)
Tires have arrived, wheels being powdercoated soon.
I love buying tires :dunno: |
You got 315s for winter? Good luck.
My tires are mounted and sitting at my tire vendor just waiting for the dreaded day I need to switch them out. I got the Pirellis also but went with a 19" square set up - 255s all around. . |
I also use a smaller (19") set in the Winter - use the same tyres as you though - as against the (20") Summer set. Good luck with that wide tread pattern though..;)

Before you all get crazy on me for the 315's. The fact is, you're 100% correct in saying that a narrower tire will give you better traction in fresh unplowed snow. A narrower tire does not have an advantage however, in simply cold weather or rain or icy conditions or on plowed streets. My wife will not be driving on anything but. Also, its bad enough I'm going from the 21 inch 325 rears to a smaller size. I cant bare the look of the 19 inch square setup. It looks like a bull with his balls cut off. I have a kickass lifted jeep with 35 inch tires for the snow. ;)

Don't worry, I wasn't going crazy on you.... :D. Tyre size is a personal preference....
And I completely agree that the X6 with 19" fitted doesn't look quite right. I did at least choose the staggered set-up to make it look a little less bad...:iagree: |

I've been waiting for Michelin or Continental to offer their winter tires in the same size rubber but it seems like Pirelli has and will be the only company making such large ice radials for the foreseeable future.
That said, those Pirellis look sweet. Gunna have to look into some of those some time in the near future... |
Staggered Winter Tire Set Up
Quote:
I know it's a little early to be thinking about Winter tires but I want to be prepared. How did you like the staggered 20" Pirelli set up last Winter?? I'm debating on the Pirelli RF's but also contemplating the staggered Toyo's Observe GSi5 (which you can buy in non run flats). I'm also thinking about running a square 275 20" set up with 10" rims and spacers in the back so I can have more tire choice ie. Blizzaks, Hankooks, Pirelli non RF etc. I don't think the 19" set looks very good at all so I'm going to stick with 20". I'm interested to hear about everyone's set up? I rub 275 all around. It's not going to be as efficient as 19"....but the snow tars do help.
While not *looks* ideal, I'd err on the 19" for BC winters. Helped a friend move up there once. How's the snow accumulation during winter |
