Rattles are driving me crazy....

Anyone else? My ears are bleeding and instead of looking forward to driving, it pisses me off.

Posting here because of the larger audience. I think this is more an X6 issue than M related.

2013 X6 M is my 5th X. Previous rides - 3 X5s and a 2010 X6. I always experienced the cold weather creaks when it got really cold but never have I had creaks and rattles like this. It's driving me absolutely out of my mind. And I can't figure where they are coming from. One rattle seems to be coming from the front passenger seat but there is another coming from the rear passenger corner somewhere. I've played around with everything looking for something loose but I'm stumped. I'll go to the dealer and ask them to see what they can find but I'm not hopeful. Any thoughts? I'm pretty certain it's interior and not under carriage noises coming through.

Thanks all.

Hi L. :wavey: Long time no post.

If you can change the sound you can at least narrow down where it might be.
Is the rattle different if someone is sitting in the seat?
How about moving the front passenger seat to a different position?
How about folding down the rear passenger seat?

Could the rear rattle be the tailgate? I had a rattle in the E53 that I solved by adjusting the rubber stops on the gate.

Hi Ray! How are those beautiful daughters? I hope all is well.

I know that the front passenger seat is one issue. I have the comfort seats. It seems to be where the seat back is articulated. There is play in it. But there is another rattle that I can't figure out. I have wiggled and giggled everything and can't replicate. Everything seems tight. I need to get someone to drive while I sit in the back seat.

L, I can think of a few of us that would be glad to hammer you X6M for you, while you are back seat driving. ;)

Baron, Juan, me, et al...Ray might fly in for a test drive. :D
GL on your squeaks & rattles.

Don't you give that car back in awhile?
BR, mD

The girls are doing a great job of ganging up on me. I'm severely out numbered. ;)

As for the rattles, there comes a point where you just have to let the service techs at the dealer handle it. You have better things to do.

Let us know if they solve the mystery.

mD - I have 13 months left.

Ray - I have an appointment. I just thought I'd have more luck if I was able to tell them exactly where it was coming from as opposed to a fishing expedition. My brother tells me they are pretty good at finding squeaks, creaks and rattles. Keeping fingers crossed.

My bad squeaks over bumps were coming from where the cargo cover sits in rails. A little felt tape and it's totally gone. Can't believe how long I dealt with it!!

cmyX6go 09-01-2014 09:36 AM

Dingular - Was it loose to the touch? One of the first thoughts I had was the cargo cover. I tried shaking and jiggling it but it seemed tight. I'll give it shot. Thank you.

I went to the dealer, took a ride with the foreman, and of course no noises. I drove for 20 minutes aiming for every bump, seam and minor pot hole I could find and nada  They said they put tape in all the known areas but it's still there. Not happy...

nope it wasn't! I had the shop foreman with me for another noise (unrelated issue with a pebble in the front pass brake) and he is an x6 owner. I complained about this other squeak over bumps and he immediately knew what it was. He put this velour like tape in the channel for the cover and BOOM instant cure.

L.

Every so often I would hear this thump/knocking coming from the passenger side of the X.
Finally discovered that the passenger side seat belt connector was knocking against the
piller. I twisted it around and quiet as a mouse. Another time the metal on my brief case
was rattling on a BMW storage bin. Prob not what your concerned with but I have found that
removing everything from the X except what it was shipped with narrows the field
regarding noises. Anyway I hear ya. Noises are a pain.

Thank you. I'll check it out.

Barry - I pulled everything out, and already toyed with the seatbelt. Thanks though.
