Florida Meet date choices

Since fln8tive's Poll Posting skillz match his Text Messaging skillz, I am posting this poll for him. ;)

He (and the rest of us) would like to get the ball rolling for a Florida Meet sometime in March. Please pick the dates that would work for you! (You may pick more than one!)

motordavid 11-01-2006 10:25 PM

Any/all are good for us!

WHOA! I would like to HELP (if needed) organize a meet in March (if that's when whoever is leading the effort decides it will happen. Yikes!

M: Did you see if Juan and Drex had a chance to talk....? March may be DOA for him.

the public schools here are on spring break from March 26-30. I'd avoid that time.

Amen to that...do the 43,000 USF kids leave town or does Tampa generally get a net influx?

SuperGreg 11-02-2006 10:25 AM

The 17th is St.Patty's Day if that makes a difference :D

vinuneuro 11-02-2006 10:32 AM

I've got off for spring break mar 12-17, and we're planning on miami. If it's sometime in there, I'm sure I could drop by for a day.

They all live here all the time anyways, so I don't think it's much of a net. Tampa by itself is not much of a Spring Break destination. The beaches in St. Petersburg and Clearwater are more so, but they are generally more family-oriented (always disappointing growing up here - I had go all the way to the east coast of Florida to see Spring Break).

Even with all of that, Spring Break is crowded around here. It might be Bert and Ethel from Mayberry or from Detroit, as opposed to some bikini-babes from USC, but it can still be still crowded.

On a boat is the place to be!

Neils never actually volunteered to put one together.

I talked to Drex. His response was: "It's November 1st, for crying out loud." He does appreciate the enthusiasm (as do I, and everyone else). We may be getting a little ahead of ourselves here, though.

I have said this a couple times, and I will say it again: Drex deserves the first right of refusal for a FL meet. He also deserves to take his sweet time deciding when, where, or even IF he wants to host a meet.

Can we PLEASE drop this subject for at least a couple weeks?

thanks,

Juan

Which is the cheapest to fly from Cali AND what city? I'd like a city with lots of fabulousness!

Let me be the first to call BS

1. Neils did offer to organize a meet. It was at the casino, and you were not there.
2. It's never too early to talk about potential meet dates. People have busy lives, and appreciate advanced notice.
3. Maybe if Drex posted his thoughts himself, we wouldn't think that we needed to start the planning process ourselves??
4. No, Drex doesn't deserve to take his sweet time  People need to plan, period!

I say let's start the planning now!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Supa: I believe I said: "They sure need to re-organize a lot of the old meat here" in reference to the general age brackets of the ladies tugging on the one-armed bandits.

I do recall you had a steely eyed lock on skunk lady as she loaded up your machine with cash, or were in the process of kicking her off her stool, and thus, you may have misheard,

For reasons of weather and holidays, it is pretty obvious that ANY meet will by default occur sometime between Presidents' Day and Hurricane Season. I for one will not be attending any outdoor events, with the exception of a bikini contest, once the humidity starts cranking. And Passover and Easter are tough times to tell the family you are leaving them to go ogle Dinan-supercharged (how did I miss out on that ride?) E53s.

However, peeps needs to plan, so it would be great to get some general windows for a possible meet fleshed out before the holidays hit. I'm over and out, at least until I am volunteered for something I did not know about. :)

cmyX6go 11-02-2006 04:11 PM

Let's make this easy. Who will come out and meet CreamyX5 for a mini meat oops meet when I fly down late January - early February.

OK, from reading Neils' response, I think it'd be wise for us to chill out for a bit.

Worse come to worst, I can talk to BMWUSA about their sponsoring an event in the Charlotte area since Spartanburg is only 1.5 hours away.

Let's give Drex some time... I'm sure he can come up with something. :)

Ian, try plugging in "2006", as in this past season...it was in the fookin '80s last March!

That's plenty warm, even for the thin skinned FL natives we
have here on the board. :nanana:

mrkbbd 11-08-2006 10:44 PM

where would this be in FLA?

ylwjacket 11-09-2006 03:24 PM

in Central FL, it can be anywhere from 40's for lows to 60's for lows, and anywhere from 60's for highs to near 90 for highs.

If it's not windy (which it may or may not be), it will feel a lot hotter than it is, because the sun is intense.

Not much in the way of weather gurantees, except that it will be warmer than up north.

If it's warmer, the offshore fishing will be good too.

SuperGreg 11-13-2006 04:57 AM

You pick the date, and I will be there ;)

And, is Michelle hosting the meet since she started this thread??

And, why assume the meet is in FL? And, why in March instead of another date? It was supposed to be yearly....

1. Niels is Fln8tive formerly Accella, he lives in Orlando
2. Getting a little testy here Doc? What do you mean by your "cough cough" remark? If you have something to say to me, take it offline and send me a PM please.
3. I guess now we know it's a surprise. That's new news. That is now more information than we had yesterday.
4. Yeah that's so. Getting testy again I see. You apparently missed all the ROFL smilies that I included. That is supposed to signify tongue and cheek comments.

While I'm glad my message did it's job and brought you out to post in this thread, I'm not glad that you took my comments so personally. I fully respect that you are an incredibly busy person. We are all just trying to help here. All folks need is a little light at the end of the tunnel, and they won't be forced to speculate.

Juanted 11-22-2006 12:39 PM

I won't speak for Drex, but I think I know where he's coming from.

Yeah, it was a surprise. To him... Just as it was for Neils.

I can see how starting a thread about a meet that you 1) have no intentions of hosting, and 2) cannot host even if you HAD the intentions of hosting could put someone in a defensive position. (I mean... we were talking dates without even a host. And, no, Neils had not volunteered to host one -- only to help with one if it was held.)

Let's all just take a deep breath and forget about this for a while.

Drex did have a good point: For our next meet should try to do something with BMWNA in the Spartanburg area when they launch the e70 sometime in the Spring. As you all know, I live one hour away.

Maybe we could work on something like that... a sort of "homecoming," "coming out," "X5 World Meet" party. :)

(Imagine having a dock and boat party at my house... and then caravaning to Sptbg. the next day? Sounds like fun to me!) :D

If an '07 FLA meet does not come to fruition...no biggie.

But, if an NC meet happens, especially at Ft San Juan and
then on to BMWMuthaUS, I hope it's not until about mid/late
April, or even May. (Only from my point of view...:D )

Juanted 11-22-2006 02:49 PM

I'll do some poking around... call the folks at the factory there, and see about putting some feelers out. If it happens, David, it wouldn't be until May... perfect, beautiful weather here in the Carolinas at that time. :)

In Florida?????

Can we PLEASE drop this? Trying to set up dates for a meet in Florida without a host was a bad idea from Day One. I've been begging you guys to drop this FL meet thing until we had a confirmed host -- which, to this day, we do not have.

Can we just move on... please?

J: It started out as a great idea, but you had asked us to stop discussing a Florida meet so as not to preempt any plans Dreex might have had...you were implict in your request that we not discuss anything that would put pressure on Drex, thus we backed away. This is the reason there is no host. We now are in a chicken and egg situation; a Florida meet cannot evolve because those of us who were thinking of organizing one were asked to cease....having never organized one, I am more than happy to narrow down some venues and hotel options in Tampa, secure some catering and query the four potential dealers in the area to see if one of them could participate, but I think that due to the fact that the apparent venue would be in Tampa, not Orlando, a co-host scenario makes sense. I suppose Michelle could come down and help...we could map out strategy at the Hooters in Clearwater Beach.

One thing to consider is that Tampa and Orlando are major gateway airports with tons of hotel rooms and some folks with kids may want to include a theme park in the visit. Last time I checked, the direct Delta flight to Asheville was about $600 r/t from Orlando. San Diego to Tampa can be done for $200 r/t. As we all know, air, room, car, and bevvies add up.

This being said, if the general consensus is to do a tie-in with Spartanburg and you want to (and know how to) host, I would certainly be happy to attend and then hit the Outer Banks for some watersports. I suppose those of us who want to can simply do a mini meet at the Don Cesar in St. Pete Beach sometime in March, then we'll come see you in May. There may be some overlap, but no date is going to be perfect for everybody. What is the nearest major airport folks would fly into for a meet at your place?

No one ever said it had to be the Official, Multi-Thousand Dollar, "Annual " X5world Meet. What is important is fellow members getting together and meeting meeting when they want and are able. We can have meets as often as we like...if we want to have meets six times a year, we can have meets six times a year! That's what it's all about here...the friendships! Why would you want to discourage that? There should be about six to eight mini-meets a year!!

Attendance is NOT manditory. If you can't make it, there will be others. After 1-1/2yrs, I'm still trying to get to ONE, on EITHER coast! These are requests to find out what kind of numbers we're talking about, IF there is a decision to make a meet. No big deal here (or at least there shouldn't be). And this is from a guy whose Navy callsign was "Mother", (hung on me because I'd worry about everyone else to the exclusion of myself). Personnally, I'm not going for the eats. (Juan, I still owe you) I just want to meet others who enjoy the same car I do and get to know more about those with whom I've interacted over the internet. As it is, I'm going to be in the Orlando, Tampa, West Naples area in Feb 6-15. So I'm probably not going to make a March meet (missed another one, AGAIN). But I'll keep trying!

ylwjacket 12-05-2006 12:30 AM

The Tampa Bay Auto Museum, http://www.tbauto.org/ whose owner is a huge car fan (no surprise there) and Rich Gallick (who says "hi" to the Crevier folks) of Bert Smith BMW http://www.bertsmithbmw.com/en_US/ have agreed to act as venue host and sponsor for an X5world get together.

Best dates for the above parties are March 24th or March 31st. I was thinking earlier in the month would be better since a Carolina meet may happen in April or May, but the venue said we'd have the place to ourselves on these dates...and the 31st won the earlier poll. Bad news is, better beach weather is likely...:)

Whether this ends up being 5 cars and ten people, or morphs into something bigger, no problem, we can order more food and a bigger tent.

Attendee cars and tent will be in back of the museum, admission (and use of the air-conditioned bathrooms) to the museum will be sponsored either by Bert Smith or my company. Bert Smith BMW will have a fully loaded 4.8i E-70 on site for test drives and possibly some vintage BMWs will be brought in from Dan Wheldon's collection...maybe a couple of BMW motorcycles as well...

I will try to get a Saturday evening Dolphin Cruise on the Sea Thriller (twin 852ci V-12 diesels sending 1800hp to a pair of 34" Nibral props for you gearheads) sponsored or get a "Group Buy" done if we have enough RSVPs.

Folks with kids, fly-ins, and drive-ins, check your Spring Break schedules and airline fares and weigh in...Here is the SunFest 07 link: http://www.xoutpost.com/x5world-x3world-meets/24378-sunfest07-final-dates.html

I'll check on hotels as well...there's a range of choices to say the least. Rather than a resort, I'll try to find moderately-priced options that are well located to the venue, shopping, the airport, and the beaches. Airport code is TPA.

Here we go again - will be in Fla(Orlando - Gordon Lightfoot, Rascal Flatts, Kelly Pickler) 19-23 Feb, but March is PA/NJ/CT - I'm out of sync again with the rest of us

This thread is over one year old guys. This is not referring to a 2008 meet :)
