Possible X5 World Meet Dates!

Check out this thread for background info. The short of it is that I'm trying to set up an X5 World Meet here in the Charlotte area. Anyone is welcome!

I have some dates:

September
- Saturday the 10th
- Sunday the 11th
- Saturday the 17th

NOTE: The pool closes on the 18th of September. On any of the following dates, we can still use the Beach Club, but the pool will not be avialable. The weather will still be wonderful, but again, no pool.

October
- Saturday the 8th
- Saturday the 15th
- Satruday the 22nd
- Saturday the 29th

I need to know how many of you could attend on what day. If we get enough interest, I'll put it together.

Juan

motordavid 08-07-2005 01:25 PM

I can and Will be there on:
September
- Saturday the 10th
- Sunday the 11th
(back in Detroit,MI for 40th HS reunion on the 17th)

October
- Saturday the 15th
- Saturday the 22nd
- Saturday the 29th
(cannot make the 8th)

For me, the pool is no biggie either way...we could bring our SCUBA gear,

Juanted 08-07-2005 01:39 PM

I'd love to have you here, MD! Again, the beach club is right there on the lake, so I can park my boat there. (There is no dock there -- yet -- so I'd have to anchor it on the shore... biggie.

Juan

jmh 08-07-2005 01:58 PM

I'd love to attend (despite the 900 mile drive :) ) .
However my only availability would be in October :

October
- Saturday the 8th (1st choice)
- Saturday the 15th (3rd choice)
- Satruday the 22nd (2nd choice)
- Saturday the 29th (1st choice)

Maybe we can arrange a factory tour in Spartanburg around the same time, or even a caravan to the factory (sort of a micro-homecoming)

Thanks for organizing this and if there's anything you need help with let me know.

What a GREAT idea!! Spartanburg is only 1.5 hours away from here. Again, if I get enough interest (10 or 15 people at least), I will surely put this together, and certainly a visit to the factory is something to consider. I can call and find out.

Juan

TQ2K 08-07-2005 03:02 PM

Great!

Okay on these dates but prefer the 8th or 15th.

October
- Saturday the 8th (**preferred**)
- Saturday the 15th (**preferred**)

- Satruday the 22nd
- Saturday the 29th

I'm also in for a BMW Factory Tour and mini homecoming...

Thanks!

Juanted 08-07-2005 03:37 PM

Alright... gonna break out Excel, make a spreadsheet and tally the results so far... :D

Juanted 08-07-2005 04:12 PM

Well, so far, October is the CLEAR Winner, with each, 15th, 22nd, and 29th receiving thee votes. I'd prefer the 15th or 22nd, if only to hold it no so close to the holiday season when people may be making additional plans to travel.

Juan

UCrewX5 08-07-2005 04:33 PM

The latter 3 weekends in October would work best for me.

SuaveX5 08-07-2005 04:54 PM

September
- Saturday the 10th

alpac 08-07-2005 05:45 PM

Any of the October dates would work fine for me. A possible visite of the Spartanburg site is indeed a wonderfull idea

Juanted 08-07-2005 06:54 PM

OK, so far, this is what I've got. Correct me if I'm wrong or if I am mising something.

Can Come in October (I'm thinking the 15th or the 22nd, though I'd prefer the 15th):

- ncx
- UCrew (Can you make it on the 15th, Jeff?)
- LCC
- TQ2K
- motordavid
- alpac
- SuaveX5

POSSIBLE attendees:

- UCrew
- SuperGreg
- jmh

I'd like to have five or six more solid commitmments before I make any reservations. JVZ, VerbalKint, Trex, Drex? Anyone? Bueheler?

Juan

PersonaNonGrata 08-07-2005 06:59 PM

Man, I'd love to come out there. What a great time that would be. It would be tough to pull off since the fianceé would be a little miffed at the expenditure in light of our "little party" we're planning. :(

UCrewX5 08-07-2005 07:20 PM

The 15th of October is a definate possibility for me  I put a call in to Drex to see if he will have completed his relo to the Virginia / D.C. area by then so that he can partake in the festivities as well.

Juanted 08-07-2005 07:28 PM

So, counting you, Jeff, we would have eight people at our meet. Anyone else? C'mon... if I get 10 "confirms" I make reservations, and call Spartanburg about getting a tour. Anyone else?

Juan

jmh 08-07-2005 07:28 PM

The 22nd would work much better for me as I have to present at a customer event form the 17th-20th (it's being held in San Francisco).
I would definately be able to make the 22nd, but I'd also try hard to
make the 15th (just would have to leave on the 16th early).

Well, we'd love to have you, Kevin... I do understand, however. Maybe we can take up a collection and pay for your ticket over. :D

Actually, I think the 22nd works better with Jeff also, correct? It's starting to look like 10/22 will be our date.

Juan

UCrewX5 08-07-2005 08:05 PM

22nd should likely be fine for me as well

jmh 08-07-2005 08:41 PM

Thanks for the info, Jan. That, however, puts a dent in our plans to visit the plant. Damn!

Juan, count me in for 10/22

UCrewX5 08-08-2005 10:42 AM

Drex is likely in for 10/22 as well - he could also use some floor space if any is still available ;)

motordavid 08-08-2005 11:16 AM

If the 10-22 date is "hard" or semi-hard, (lol!), I've got two spare bedrooms here on the mtn. It is not in JK's zip code, but we are only 150 miles away...jes' an idea, espc if someone(s) is rolling in this way on Friday 10-21 and hauling fanny for JK's on Sat am 10-22, as I am. Lettme know. Can sleep & feed 4. BR,md

md - are you on the way from the D.C. area to Juan's? If so, that might work out for Drex and me to lay over there for the night and then caravan down early Saturday morning.

motordavid 08-08-2005 02:04 PM

UCrew: Sorta...but, not really. We are West and a tad north of JK's joint. About 150miles west of Charlotte area. (JK is jes'south of Charlotte in SC.)

Here's a Yahoo map showing broad route from DC to Charlotte:
http://maps.yahoo.com/dd_result?newa...NC&tcountry=us

And, map showing DC to HillbillyHeaven aka Waynesville,NC
(we are about 30-40 mins West of Asheville,NC):
http://maps.yahoo.com/dd_result?newa...86&tcountry=us

But, ya'll welcome to stay/lay over...we are about 2 to 2 1/2 hrs from theMtn to JK's.
BR,md

PS: EDIT...I misspoke: we are about 150 miles, Not 100 miles from Charlotte and JK's place.
Getting ol'and forgetful. Here's Yahoo gen. map from the Mtn to nearly JK's:

http://maps.yahoo.com/dd_result?newa...y=us&terr=3005

It's a map to Frugal McDougals, a large, wine&liq outlet just inside the SouthCar. border, that I get to on occasion; JK is jes' down the road, from memory.

I'll be following the two of you down WHENEVER we get it together.

JV

Juanted 08-08-2005 08:06 PM

So... guys, do I book the beach club for the 22nd? The weather should still be nice enough for us to go on the boat, maybe even get nine holes in (I know you are a huge golfer, md), have a get-together outside, the whole nine yards. No pool, but that's the only drawback.

Jeff, if you and Drex make it, that will be 10 people counting me... Hope SG can make it as well, and maybe, MAYBE even Kevin? The "dirty dozen." :D

If I have you guys' commitment I'll book the beach club for the 22nd of October.

Also, two things:
1. if anyone has any special dietary needs (vegetarians, for example), please let me know.
2. I happen to think that if beer is not worth a damn unless it's in a green bottle (Becks, Heineken -- yes, I am a beer snob). Are you guys Bud, Miller, MGD types? You have to let me know.

Juan

motordavid 08-08-2005 08:12 PM

JK: Well, I'm in for the 22nd and probably bringing myCEO.
(I am considering making the run in the Vette, however: great time of year, good color, etc., or on one of my sleds, or the X...)

I suspect we will stay over; need a cheap/decent "close by" motel rec'd. 3 hrs each way, so I suspect we'd sleep in the area.

I eat anything...I didn't get this size missing lunch, or being picky.

Beer is beer, though I'm not a "lite/light/ultra" fan, but no BFD.
Don Julio shooters? Good Vino? I can bring some. ;>)
BR,md

UCrewX5 08-08-2005 08:14 PM

Book it - I'll do everything I can to be there (so will Drex).

Looking at the map, it looks like it makes more sense for me to hoof it right to md's on Friday and then trek over to Juan's on Saturday morning. Drex and JV will have to caravan down separately.

As for beer, Becks light is good. I also like Goose Island (a Chicago brew) and Sam Adams. I can also handle Bud Light and Corona (with a lime, of course). I'm more of a wine snob then a beer snob :D

I'll call tomorrow and book it. Oh yeah, we have a decent wine collection as well... :)

JV 08-08-2005 08:27 PM

I'm good to go on the 22nd as well, don't know yet whether or not I will try to drag the Polish princess along as she is not so into the car thang. I hope to hang out with Drex some once he settles in around here, so hopefully we'll be old pals once the time comes to head down south to casa de Juan. Let me know if you need to have any $$ thrown your way to make it happen, Juan.

I am not a beer snob, but the European green bottles work for me just fine!

Great!! Looking forward to seeing you and Drex. No money is needed. Only, you, your X (or vette, in md's case :D) and your loved one, if she wants.

Awesome  I see that RC is opening a hotel in Charlotte in '08, what's fancy in Charlotte, Juan? I'm an admitted hotel snob (nice hotels have the biggest beds).

JV

Rob_ 08-08-2005 08:48 PM

Juan,

Are there any activities to keep the kids entertained? My son is 13 and my daughter is 9 ...If not, it will just be my wife and I and the kids will be spending the night at their friends houses.

spaz07 08-08-2005 08:49 PM

Guys, I'd love to come. But being only 16, I might not get by the bouncers..lol. And band competitions fill up pretty much every Saturday from now til Thanksgiving. Woohoo. Too bad, only ~2 hours away from Juan in Charlotte.

JV

Check out Visit Charlotte dot com for a complete listing.

Off the top of my head:

In the Center City (also called "uptown Charlotte" -- don't ask, but it's really downtown Clt.):

- Omni Hotel
- Westin
- Marriott

In the Ballantyne area (south east Charlotte -- very nice, upscale area) we have the Ballantyne Resort, which is where the PGA tour players stay when in town for the Wachovia Championships. This hotel is also the closest to where I am.

There is also the Park Hotel in the Myers Park area of Charlotte (the city's oldest, most prestigious neighborhood and a historic area). Very nice.

What we COULD do, is NOT get wasted at our get-together, and maybe go into town in the evening some martinis, some pool...? Anything you guys want.

Juan

JV 08-08-2005 08:57 PM

You're the man, been to the Ballantyne before, that's my joint and closest to your crib too, sweet.

Rob,

The pools will be closed, unfortunately. The beach club, though IS on the lake. There is a tiny (and I mean tiny) beach area there. In Center City (or uptown Charlotte), you will find Discovery Place, an activity museum for kids, which is very cool.

I will ask the wife for more kid-friendly activities and/or options.

You're more than welcome to come, Zach. But... no beer for you, that's for sure! :) I will have non-alcoholic drinks on hand.

Juan,
This is a great idea! I was thinking about something like this... (but since my wife and I live in a small condo in Hoboken, NJ, I certainly couldn't play host!)

Anyway, the October date may work for me as well. If I can swing it, I'd really like to come down and meet everyone

Anyone else thinking of making the trek from NYC area?

Juanted 08-08-2005 10:04 PM

We'd love to have you, Aaron. Come on down!! The more, the merrier.

Let me know if you can make it.

Hey guys
How about me, I've bbe away 4 a few hours and i'm about to miss the biggest event of the year....
Hey Juan, I'd love 2 be there!!!!
Let me know.

Juanted 08-08-2005 10:37 PM

C'mon on down, tijanaw!! Would love to have you!

Let me say this: EVERYONE is invited. Just let me know, and I will add you to the list. The more the merrier. Anyone and everyone who can come. I'd love to have as many folks as possible.

Juan

jmh 08-08-2005 10:39 PM

Well pencel me in for the 22nd . I'd plan to leave from New Hampshire on
the 21st (or even 20th) ....
As for "upscale" hotels it seems there's a nice Westin in Charlotte and also
another Starwood property called "The Ballantyne Resort, A Luxury Collection Hotel
" :) .... Both are only ~19 miles from the meet ....

For those who want to caravan we could plan for a "pickup" stop
in CT, NY(C), Philly and DC before heading to SC/NC ....

- Jan

Juanted 08-08-2005 10:43 PM

Alright!! Now we're cooking! We're starting to get some real interest here. The number is up to 15 folks, now! Definitely enough for a meet!

I'll call tomorrow to book the beach club.

Jan, talk to DinanX5. He's looking for people with whom to caravan from nothern Jersey.

Juan

alpac 08-08-2005 10:48 PM

This is going to be fun. I am really looking forward to meeting all of you folks. hope my X5 will be fixed by that time. I would hate having to drive another car for this event.

tijanaw 08-09-2005 12:37 AM

Hey, Jan
We could definitly caravan down there. Man, can you guys imagine a few X'S ROLLING DOWN 95 one after the other. I'm telling you guys, it will be crazy. I can just picture people's face when they see the X's cruising on the highway together....we should def get as many people as pos to drive at the same time. People will switch lane when they see us coming.
