1st Annual X5 World Meet!! Come One, Come All!!

OK, guys. It's set!!

For those of you who have not been following our "East Coast X5World Meet" thread, read it all here and here for all background information.

What Is it?
I will be hosting the first annual X5World Meet in Tega Cay, SC, 10 minutes south of Charlotte, NC.

When and Where
October 22, 2005.

The exact location will be the Tega Cay Beach and Swim Club (see picture below).

Time is yet to be determined. I am looking for suggestions. I was thinking it could start at 1:00 or 2:00 PM until 6:00 or 7:00 PM? What do you guys think?

What We Will Do
There are no set activities. However, the following comes to mind:
- Meet your fellow "board members."
- Drink some beer and/or wine.
- Eat some food.
- Listen to some music.
- Possibly go out on Juan's boat.
- Possibly play some golf.
- Possibly go to Charlotte and hang out -- play pool, drink some martinis, smoke some cigars. Whatever.
- Suggestions are welcome!! If anyone wants to do anything in particular, let me know!!

Who's Invited
Anyone who wants to come. I have two couches, and two sofa-bed thingies that people can use. UCrew, SuperGreg (if he makes it) and Drex have dibs on those "luxurious" sleeping arrangements. My house is big enough to host a few more. Just don't expect a "comfortable" bed. :D I can garantee good coffee, good food, and a shower. Sleeping will have to be done on a couch or the floor, though. Nonetheless, you're more than welcome to stay in my house.

Who's Coming
So far, the following board members have expressed the desire to attend (if I am missing anyone, let me know):
- UCrewX5
- Drex
- ncx
- LCC
- TQ2K
- motordavid
- alpac
- SuaveX5
- jmh
- jvz
- DinanX5
- tijanaw
- Rob_
- (Possible) SuperGreg
- (Possible and Hopefully) PersonaNonGrata :)
- Kaefer :D

Now What?
If you want to come, RSVP by posting here, via PM, or via email. Does not matter to me. Just let me know you're coming.

1. NCX. Confirmed.

ps. A group shot of all the X5's and all the attendees would be cool near that clubhouse driveway, and should be a must-have on your list of things to do that day.

edit: will bring wife too if others will be there

Rob_ 08-09-2005 03:13 PM

Rob_ Confirmed!

It will be my wife and I. I agree with NCX..."Group Photo"

Eh too bad SC is soooo far away.

Naaah... it's only two hours by plane! :D

Seriously, though. Keep your eye out for an e-saver for that weekend. That may be an inexpensive way for you to attend. Just a thought...

Juan

JV 08-09-2005 04:45 PM

I will definitely attend, with or without female B/N.

JV

Bavarian 08-09-2005 05:04 PM

Eh why attend by plane, when this is an X5 meet. One of these days, I gotta make the trek down to the USA for one of these meets.

I reckon my X5 would have gone the greatest distance. :D

Well, agreed (sorta -- md is driving here in his vette!)... The main reason to meet is to get to know all the fellow board members more than anything else. Anyway, hope you can make it down sometime.

LCC 08-09-2005 06:05 PM

LCC Confirmed!

bozo 08-09-2005 06:10 PM

Hey J, even thought I cant be there, FYI, this is a great thing. Hopefully there will be one next year or some other time in the near future...I will be sure to be there...

Oh yeah, BTW, I just got back from the pub so please forgive me for my slurred typing..I was introduced to a "new" Carlsberg Export label today and it kicked my a$$ big time..I am absolutely LIT!

Anyway, I just found out today Uncle Sam is sending me to East Coast North Carolina in June of '06 with no more Japan, Korea. Singapore or UK tours to look forward to.. (which is the best news Ive received all year) so I will be there next time around for sure!...

Thanks again for sparing your time, home and energy for this...And be sure to take a lot of pics for all (who couldnt attend) to enjoy!! :)

LeMansX5 08-09-2005 06:14 PM

Juan, You can put me down as tentative as I have some thing going on that will confirm the date later. Will have to break the journey in MD. How far is X5 factory from your place?

This is too bad you cannot be with us. Where will you be in East North Carolina next year? Wilmington area? this is a nice place. Yea their beers are pretty strong overthere in UK. I used to go there for my work pretty often when I was still living in France. One evening I was invited by some British friends for a pub party. I remember drinking 1 pint, 2 pints, 3 pints ... :beerchug: may be 4 pints and then....the only thing I remember is when I woke up  in the hotel the next morning with the worst hangover I ever had. :hammer: . I love their beers though.

UCrewX5 08-09-2005 06:54 PM

Baring something unforseen, I'm in. The better half is a question mark, but that isn't a factor in my being there.

Kewl X5 08-09-2005 06:56 PM

I would love to attend, but I already have a prior engagement that weekend already!! You guys/gals will have a great time and definitely post the pics!!

jmh 08-09-2005 07:42 PM

Ok pencil me in. I plan to leave Boston/MA either very early on the 21st or if I get back in time from the west coast I might head up to NYC the afternoon of the 20th.

If there's an interest maybe we can even arrange a visit to the BMW factory the following Monday, use Sunday for a nice drive around NC/SC (I am sure Motordavid has some good suggestions :D ).
I could also try and see if the folks from StealthONE would give me a couple of their StealthONE to install them into X5's and have a little DIY ModFest ?

I am most likely going to stay in Charlotte Friday night and Saturday (the Westin), as Juan already suggested maybe we can also plan to get together for drinks etc in Charlotte (Sat/Sun) ?

Just a few ideas....

As things become more firm we can also plan the carvan route. Right now I am thinking along the lines Nashua/NH, Boston/MA, CT (New Haven/Greenwich), NYC, Philly/PA, Washington/DC) ???

- Jan

Curious Joel 08-09-2005 07:54 PM

I'd love to go! I can't, though... That is the weekend before my birthday, and I've got plans. :-( Make sure to take LOTS of pics, and post them!

UCrewX5 08-09-2005 08:07 PM

Jan - I might be in for a factory tour on Monday.

Great ideas, Jan. I'll contact the folks in Spartanburg and see if we can do something on Monday? I love your ModFest idea, too.

I was also thinking about talking with my local dealer, and ask them if they'd like to come. Maybe have an E90 for us to drool over? Or maybe something to raffle off -- merchandise or accessory? (a BWM cup, hat, something like that? I don't know... cargo net for the back -- anything.)

Factory is only about 1.5 hours from my house; unfortunately, it is not opened on Saturdays. Jan has mentioned the possibility of our caravaning around NC/SC on Sunday (or, stay here in Charlotte), and then go for a factory tour on Monday.

OK, I took some pics today when I went by the beach club earlier to reserve the place. The two young girls there were just hanging out, apparently. I asked them if they were the on-call life guards, and they said no. I then asked, "OK, can I take your picture nontheless?" They simply smiled. I took that as a "yes." :D (I'm such a perv.)

Anyway, this is where we'll hold it. There IS a pool, but it will be closed, so I did not take a picture of it. Enjoy.

It doesn't look like I will make it. Minimum airfare is $400 +. If I can find a more reasonable airfare prior to the event, I will let you know.

Keeping you informed,
Greg

p.s. I checked flights into Charlotte only

Juanted 08-10-2005 07:51 AM

Hope we can make it work, SG. You should also look into flights into Greensboro, NC, or Columbia, SC. I can drive up (or down) to pick you up. Usually, flights to those cities are a lot cheaper. Both are about one hour's drive from Charlotte.

Love the ModFest idea too... I've been thinking about a V1/S1 anyway.
We should also send some pictures and a quick write-up into Roundel (BMW CCA mag) - I'm sure they'd post a blurb about our exploits!!

15 - 20 minute drive -- at most? Charlotte Center City is approximately 14 or 15 miles from my house. How fast will you be driving? :D

I will post detailed directions to the place as we get closer to the event.

Bing,

Yeah, I know it's far from CA, so I understand. We'd love to have as many people as possible. PersonaNonGrata (CA), and SuperGreg (AZ) also want to come, but the distance may be an issue. Let's hope you guys can work something out.

I can pick him up at the Raleigh airport or at any hotel in the Raleigh area on my way to Charlotte. I am thinking about doing the trip to Charlotte and return the same day though and he may want to stay longer.

OK, an update:

1. The folks at the Swim and Beach Club called me and said that they will let me use the place for free. Yup, gratis. Kostenloss. :D I do a lot of volunteer work for the city and the local Lions club. They decided to reward me by letting me use it for free. Cool, huh?

2. I have the DJ lined up. He'll be there from 2:00 PM 6:00 PM, or so.

3. There is a local Carolina barbeque place here that I will contact to provide us with some chow. We've used this place before, and it's some good stuff. Anyone ever had some authentic Carolina BBQ? Again, if anyone has any dietary limits (vegetarian, for example), please let me know. I will accomodate you.

4. I was at the dealer today, and talked to a couple of folks there. I don't have a definitive answer, but looks like they'll be willing to provide us with a few goodies (BMW coffee mugs, hats, maybe?) that we can maybe raffle off or as prizes (see below).

5. I thought it'd be fun to have a little trivia game. The restriction, however, is that the trivia subjects would be X5, X5World, or X5World members! What do you guys think?

6. I will put together a little "package" with directions, local hotels, places of interest, and so forth.

Again, any suggestions and/or ideas are welcome and encouraged.

Juan

Juanted 08-20-2005 06:40 PM

You got it! The place from which we get our BBQ has both "eastern Carolina" (vinegar-based) and "western Carolina" (tomato sauce-based). Here, eastern vs. western carolina BBQ is about as heated an argument as "Carolina vs. Duke." You can't like both, by the way. It's one or the other. I prefer eastern Carolina BBQ, but they're both good.

Do any of the local hire companies over there hire out X5's? I know Hertz and a few others do 3's and 5's.......

We have been thinking about a few weeks holiday in the States and if we're gonna come over we're gonna have to do it right!

I do not know the answer, but I can gladly call around, and see if anyone does. How's that? Can you give me a day or two to find out?

Cheers

I know that Hertz rents Audi A6 and A8s.. But I'm not sure about BMWs.

Wish I could come! I would be too much of a temptation for those Southern boys to pull me over, with my personalized "Yankee" tags.

Dude! C'mon... don't let that stop you. As a matter of fact, there is contingency of northeasterners driving down, including JVZ who is also from the DC area. I believe they'll be caravaning down... you should join them. It'll be fun. :)

As of right now, count me in! I just realized that I'm off that weekend. Not sure if I can stick around for the proposed factory tour on Monday, but I'll be there Saturday!

Just copped a room at the Super8 on Riverview Rd, which I think is pretty close to JK's Lifestyles of the Rich Compound!

Not the Hilton or Marriott or Ritz-Carlton, but I'm on a fixed income budget and I lived in those joints for 30 yrs on the ExpAcct.

But, we are booked for Sat. night, Oct. 22nd, and cooking, calendar-wise...

Hey Juan,
Question for you... just in case we have really bad weather, do we have a backup/plan B schedule? Will the club house be sufficient for all of us to be inside in case of really crappy weather? So far it looks good but you never know. Just thought I'd mention it.

I don't think that will be a problem. The beach club is pretty big. I don't know how many people it can hold, but certainly 100 would not be a problem, and by last count, we are not close to that number. We've used it before for birthday parties and baby showers with 30 or 40 people with no problems. I think we should be OK.

I plan on docking my boat nearby, so if the weather is bad, it may hamper THAT, but aside from that, I think we're good! :)
