A dilemma

Ok, here's the dilemma. Would it be inappropriate for me to show up at the X5world meet in something other than an X5? Because that may be what happens with me. Here's why.

I have a contract pending on an Acura MDX that I am buying for my wife and the vehicle is down in the Miami area. Assuming the deal goes through, I will need to pick up the MDX at the end of the week. So what I am thinking of doing is flying down to Miami on Thursday and picking up the MDX; driving on Friday up to md's place in N. Carolina; and then driving on Saturday over to Juan's for the X5world festivities. Obviously I'll be in an MDX instead of my X5, but I just don't see a good way around this.

In case anyone is wondering "why an MDX and not another X5", the reason is that we really need a vehicle with 3rd row seating, and after 15 years of driving a minivan she refuses to get another one. And since the X7 isn't out yet, an MDX will have to suffice for now.

Regarding Sunday/Monday, if the factory tour is in fact canceled then I'll probably head back to Michigan on Sunday. Otherwise my plan is to go to the plant tour on Monday and then head back home.

Looking forward to seeing everyone in less than a week, even though I may be X5-challenged that weekend.

Jeff,

An MDX is way better than the rental car :dunno: I drove for the Chicago meet at your place two years ago.

I think having an MDX there would be a good opportunity to test it against a 3.0i X5....

The MDX is a GREAT vehicle. Don't sweat it at all! If it makes you feel any better, I will meet you and MD on 77 and convoy into Tega Cay so you'll arrive with an X5.

ps. I have made that drive from Miami to Charlotte.... and dude... that is one LONG drive! 95 to 26 to 77. I bought my X5 down there and drove it back up here. You'll actually go past Tega Cay to get to MD's. Feel free to stop in for a cold one on your way up to the mountains! See you soon -

ncx is right, Jeff. You'll have drive past me to get to MD's. If you want to spend the night at my place on Friday (and Saturday, obviously), you're more than welcome to do so.

As far as the MDX goes, don't sweat it. Drive it to the Meet. We just won't include it in the group pictures! :D

I'm used to long drives. I put 2000 miles on last week touring the UP of Michigan. And last summer I drove all the way from the Florida Keys back to Michigan without a layover, with my wife driving about 4 hours of the trip to allow me to catch some quick shut-eye and me driving the other 20 hours.

Juan - thanks for the offer of Friday night. I'll keep that in mind, although I really want to get over to MD's to check out the mountain vista.

The MDX deal is still in flux, so it may turn out to be a moot point anyway ;)

I was looking forward to taking a look at your TV on Nav/DVD setup in the flesh, but you gotta do what you've gotta do, Jeff.

See you Sunday in whichever vehicle it happens to be.
