I should probably just pony up for the cable from one-stop-electronics, but have to wait for the cable to show up and I am a very impatient person, since I have a soldering iron and am not afraid to use it. :-)

I am about 99% sure your cable will not work even if you unsolder the pins. There are only a few vendors out there with quality cables that can be trusted
100% of the time. The cable you have is most likely junk and will only work on 2007 and older models. You might as well check the pins before you buy a new cable.
