No problem, just making sure you were aware they were different transfer cases, and as such, possibly different oil recommendations. If you go to realoem.com and enter your VIN, drill down to the Transfer Case and see what your part is listed as there, ATC500 or NV500.

As for the oil, I am by no means an expert, but I've also just had my transfer case replaced. From the research I've done, it seems there are plenty of non BMW oils that claim 'compatibility', but those who've done the in-depth research find that as marketing-speak, and the actual makeup of the oil is not an equivalent of the BMW oil, thus not recommended.

I did NOT come up with any specific proven examples of anyone who fried their transfer case using non-BMW oil, but I'm sure there's someone out there who thinks they did. I would rather not be the first, so I used BMW oil.
