May or may not be. But for limited increased airflow ( debatable in this post) it is not worth the risk.

A lot of their power claims were also on vehicles that were parts bin vehicles anyway. In the late 70's, 80's and 90's you had the same engine used in multiple vehicles and an untuned intake system. So the K&N did improve airflow. Eventually the parts bin manufacturers caught on that there was power to be had there and stepped their game up. So a K&N does a lot less than what it once did. I wouldn't use one on a BMW, Mercedes or Audi though.
