Ive done a few of these recently, the hub puller isnt really necessary, unless you have a really badly seized CV axle. usually i use a pointed center punch and a 2 lb hammer, tap it out, use some penetrating oil (WD40 or so) once its loose, then take a prybar and pop it loose from the front diff.
I made a tool up from an old axle nut (ground off the nut part and use it "upside down" to "pull" the axle through, sometimes its really tight, DONT hammer on the rubber CV boot, DO not !! figure out a way to pull it through.
