M54 Tin Can Metal Rattle 2000 RPMs
In the hopes of curing someone else's headache now and in the future...I found the cause of my "Tin Can" metal rattle sound that occurred when my foot was on the gas (1800-2000 RPMs). It was the aluminum heat shield (A) touching the exhaust manifold (B). By simply bending the heat shield vertically, the sound is GONE!!!! The rivets on the shield actually break probably from expansion and contraction causing the heat shield to settle against the manifold slightly leading to the "tin can" rattle when accelerating.
As many of you know there are quite a few threads out there for various M54 powered vehicles but very little definitive conclusions. Hope it helps!
