I know the transmission on my X5 is also the newer 8 speed ZF as well. I read several postings on this forum regarding resetting the unit, but also there posts saying not too. If you unplug the module and the problem stops, then the gear box is bad. I was told this by several BMW certified mechanics. Today I went out for my first good test drive and it is performing great with no issues. I'm hoping this is my last visit to the dealership for a while. Been there way too often.
