Very easy DIY. On the E70 4.8 it's above the right rear wheel. Just remove the wheel, wheel well body trim and wheel well cover and it will very obvious. You'll have to remove the 2 10mm nuts to lower the entire charcoal canister to get at the pump for removal.

I just received the same P2402 code on my 2008 X5 3.0si and found this thread. I know this thread is a couple of years old now but I wanted to know if the issue ever came back after this fix. I am planning to do the same fix on my car. Hopefully - it's in the same location on my car as it is on the 4.8si.
