Forget a pistol grip shotgun. They are extremely hard to control because there's nothing stabilizing it and your shoulder can't help absorb the recoil. Unless your wrists are stronger than your shoulder... <insert whacking-off joke here>

Plus, when you hold one up in a firing position, it's not any shorter than an AR or regular shotgun with a stock.
I'd suggest just getting the NJ-compliant S&W. Sport model or not, doesn't really matter. The only difference is the forward assist and dust cover - neither of which is necessary for the range or home defense. And S&W makes a good rifle, that's on par with the LE6920.
BTW, you can sometimes find the 6920 online for $800-900 so don't count it out. I think I paid about $825 or $850 for my 6720 (lightweight Colt) with a local shop price matching Buds Gun Shop's website.
