My recollection is that the pictures posted were schematics that were not helpful to me because of my limited diagnostic capabilities.
An independent scanned the vehicle (it was in for something else) identified the failed part gave me a quote of about $900 to replace both even though only one side was bad. I ended up replacing only the failed side (part was $325 at the time). It was very easy and straightforward. Everything has been working fine since.
Unless you want to take a shot at replacing one side at a time or both at once you may need to get it scanned. Without the scan I would have had no way of isolating which side had failed.
