I enjoyed the sound from my retrofitted DSP sub in my vehicle even with high audio inputs. After putting an Eonon GA6166 HU in I now use the low RCA input direct from the head unit and get a very good result.

Thanks again for the tips. I was able to harvest the connector and enough of the wiring from the donor X5 that I hope to be able to simply leave the enclosure as-is.
I recently installed a GA5166 (which has a sub output of course) in my SUV, but I'm inclined to simply tap into the high outputs and get a sub amp with an adjustable LPF. I already tore up the interior once to run my backup camera wiring, and that was an exercise I'm not anxious to repeat...
