I'm having the exact same issue right now. I know what caused mine though... I took the X muddin' a short while ago and got EVERYTHING in the engine bay covered in mud . Ever since then, frequently when I start my X up, it will screech like a banshee for a few seconds and then go away. I tried cleaing the AC compressor off as best I could and it helped a little but it still does it from time to time. If I turn the AC off, the noise will immediately go away which is how I know its the compressor. If it continues to do so for a few more weeks I'm going to give it one last attempt at cleaning and then if that doesn't fix it, just replace it .
