Go get a newer lower mileage 35d and now you have a parts car that can be quite valuable to yourself.
If you do want to keep it on the road, do an exhaustive inspection of what is likely to come up in the next 15-20k miles before committing to rebuilding the trans. bummer to rebuild the transmission if you have another $7k coming in the next year.
I would look into the less expensive things within the trans if you can make some educated guesses, also the transmissions trade around 1800-2000 from recyclers which could be a good solution.
