My particular purchase of a 4.6 new had nothing to do with a warranty. I turned in a leased daily driver and wanted another. I went to the dealer looking for a full size sedan, it was on the floor, love at first site. Certainly a new car warranty is very comforting. I was not new to DIY at the time and as soon as the warranty expired it was DIY time. I hate turning it over to the dealer for fear someone will take it for a testing joyride or damaging it.
I don't understand why anyone's reasoning for purchase, DIY experience or budget is ever an issue. Just as in your case there is no way to know and just as there is no way for you to know if contributions are ever worthwhile to consider. If someone comes here for help we should try to help them make an informed decision. Their course of action taken should be of no concern. When I started modding cars I was way over my head, bought used stuff, had very limited tools. First engine I pulled was with a chain fall hooked to an apple tree limb, 2X4s for jack stands, bumper jack to lift it. The good ol' days were not that good. Any input I got was from friends that got their hands dirty with me. There were many times they thought I was nuts but they were still there to help.
