This happened to my E90, at least three broken aluminum bolts. I replaced the VCG myself and took me days. Hasn't happened on my X5 yet. The use of aluminum bolts is due to the material of the engine, magnesium block I think. Make sure to follow the torque specs to avoid over-tighten them.
