Budgie, you should replace the door handle carrier before it completely breaks. Don't buy the cheap aftermarket. I bought one, and had to file it down in a number of spots to make it fit, then I gave up and returned it when the lock would not fit properly and it was to intricate and detailed to file in inaccessible spots.

Febi-Bilstein is an OEM so may be a good alternative to BMW at half the price.
