I've repaired about 3-4 door handle carriers. The new method with a stainless zip tie is amazing. Best part besides being 1/10th of 1% the price is that it's a perfect fit! Even OEM part often needs some tweaking to fit. The one you just took out is 100% compatible!

I bought one, and had to file it down in a number of spots to make it fit, then I gave up and returned it when the lock would not fit properly and it was to intricate and detailed to file in inaccessible spots.

Febi-Bilstein is an OEM so may be a good alternative to BMW at half the price.

When replacing, remove the actuator and fix it so it won't freeze in the future.

Will do. Thanks. I’m going to try the ss zip tie method. If I can do it with confidence, I’ll keep the replacement just in case.

FYI the original fix I did on my DHC lasted several years until the other side of the hinge self destructed (ie my fix never broke). I received some donor DHC from an xo member that were in various states of broken and I fixed one of them with the steel zip tie that I used for my updated repair and that has been working ever since.

Also, never had a frozen door any doors that I repaired the actuator, but the actuators where I didn’t add the anti freeze fix will reliably freeze up about one a month in the winter

Hi folks. Sorry for the delayed update.

The DHC was intact, but the cable was stretched maybe? Anyway, the replacement from fcpEuro was a perfect fit. Winterized the rest of the mechanisms and all is well.

The cable is steel it won’t stretch but what does happen is the sleeve will rust and compress has the same effect. I caught mine starting to do this it can be temporary be repaired with jb weld or just about any epoxy.

I was surprised how often I would hear “my cable stretched “ which I knew really wasn’t possible but when I saw first hand the sleeve rusting and getting compressed it all made sense, the cable won’t pull as far as it just retracts farther into the sleeve vs pull the lever.
