To add to this thread. My X5 with the ZF engine was doing this issue of jerking/loud bang. It got to a point where I had to gently go up hills very slowly when stopping/starting due to traffic. All the other times as well. It became a stress machine and who needs more stress. Had it in to a mechanic and had a valve body rebuild, square seal replacement and new tranny fluid. Now the car shifts like original and smooth. This valve body issue is mentioned in other threads. Roll on X5. cheers James
