![]() That being said, it still occurs every now and then -- so the software reset doesnt seem to be the fix for this. Any other suggestions on how to correct this would be greatly appreciated. Last thing I need is my transmission to fail or for an accident because the X5 is jumping forward. |

I seem to be having the same issue as described in here. It's happened twice now. How can I check if I could benefit from a software 'upgrade'? And what is the general cost associated?

It has been mentioned in a number of threads that reseting the learning feature
of the transmission helps. I can personally attest that it does help the issue. So once a year when the lurch comes around I just turn the key to the on position (motor not running) the press the accelerator to the floor for a while. That resets the transmission learning feature and i'm good to go for a while. Will it help you? I can't say but you've got nothing to lose. BTW changing the transmission fluid has nothing to do with it so save your money.

To add to this thread. My X5 with the ZF engine was doing this issue of jerking/loud bang. It got to a point where I had to gently go up hills very slowly when stopping/starting due to traffic. All the other times as well. It became a stress machine and who needs more stress. Had it in to a mechanic and had a valve body rebuild, square seal replacement and new tranny fluid. Now the car shifts like original and smooth. This valve body issue is mentioned in other threads. Roll on X5. cheers James
