bcredliner,

RE: ..."I am researching which generator is best for our needs."

Not a gen expert but we have had a Generac whole house gen since day 1 at our western NC Mtn home, since Sept 2001.

It ran like a top until a yearish ago when it was simply worn out/tired and replacement parts for a 19 yr old model were v difficult to source per my electrician.

He is a Gen 'dealer', but also sells and installs other brands, so I had a new 22 kW whole house Generac installed to replace the old unit.

The new one is sleeker looking, well built, has lots of interior room for 'servicing', and runs several dB quieter.

My electrician/installer, (about all he does is service and install gens these days), also noted that Generac runs free extended warranties a few times a year, so we put off the new Gen for a few weeks waiting for the warranty promo window to open.

Not pitching the brand, but few if any of us have had more than one brand so other than personal anecdote, our Generac is a v good unit, and has saved our bacon literally and figuratively, for 2 decades.

We have underground utilities on our little 5 house high elevation mtn road, but the power lines coming up the Mtn from town are above ground for the long run; thus, we lose power often and the gen saves our fanny.
